<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S2007-33642015000300667&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S2007-33642015000300667&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S2007-33642015000300667&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen:  INTRODUCCIÓN:  La rata de bosque nublado de oriente Nephelomys nimbosus, es endémica de Ecuador y restringida únicamente a los bosques de la vertiente oriental; es conocida de cuatro localidades a lo largo de la cuenca alta del río Napo (Baeza y Chaco-río Oyacachi), y en la cuenca al alta del río Pastaza (San Antonio y San Francisco).  METODOLOGÍA:  La identidad taxonómica de un individuo de Oryzomys sp ., colectado el 6 de julio del 2003 en Tapichalaca, provincia de Zamora Chinchipe en el sureste de Ecuador se revisó a detalle, con la revisión se determinó que corresponde a la rata de bosque nublado de oriente N. nimbosus.  RESULTADOS:  El ejemplar de N. nimbosus (hembra adulta) presenta las siguientes características: pelaje marrón rojizo-oscuro, pelos de cubierta entre 11-13 mm; región ventral grisáceo-blanquecino con tonalidades amarillentas. El cráneo presenta un rostro delgado y de aspecto delicado; crestas supraorbitales no desarrolladas; fosa mesopterigoidea de forma rectangular con las esquinas del borde anterior redondeadas; el foramen incisivo es corto y más ancho en la parte media. Mandíbula con foramen mentoniano pequeño; muesca sigmoidea corta y redondeada.  DISCUSIÓN Y CONCLUSIONES:  El ejemplar aquí registrado permite ampliar la distribución de la especie para el suroriente del Ecuador en 350 km aproximadamente y da a conocer la quinta localidad. Percequillo (2015) menciona que N. nimbosus es parapátrica con N. auriventer, quien lo reemplaza en zonas de mayor altitud sobre los 2,000 m. No obstante, una revisión de especímenes reveló un ejemplar de N. auriventer colectado a 2,950 m. Las dos especies posiblemente comparten simpatría, sin embargo no se dispone de información donde las dos especies han sido colectadas en el mismo sitio.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  INTRODUCTION:  The Lesser Golden-bellied, Nephelomys nimbosus, is endemic to Ecuador and restricted only to the forests of the eastern slope of the Andes. This species is known from four localities along the upper reaches of the Napo River (Baeza, Chaco-river Oyacachi) and the headwaters of the Pastaza River (San Antonio and San Francisco).  METHODS:  The taxonomic identity of an individual Oryzomys sp ., collected on July 6, 2003, in Tapichalaca province of Zamora Chinchipe southeastern Ecuador, was reviewed in detail, the review determined that correspond to Nephelomys nimbosus.  RESULTS:  The specimen of N. nimbosus (adult female) has the following characteristics: dark reddish-brown fur, hair cover between 11 to 13 mm in length; whitish-gray with yellowish hues on the venter. The skull has a thin, delicate-looking face; supraorbital ridges undeveloped; mesopterigoidea pit rectangular with corners rounded on the leading edge; the incisive foramen is shorter and wider in the middle; mandible with small mental foramen; short and rounded sigmoid notch.  DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:  This record extends the geographic range of the species to the southeast of Ecuador by about 350 km, and adds a fifth locality. Percequillo (2015) mentions that N. nimbosus is parapatric with N. auriventer, and replaces it in higher altitudes above 2,000 m. However a review of specimens revealed a specimen of N. auriventer collected at 2,950 m, indicating that these two species may be sympatric in part of their ranges. However no information was available where the two species have been collected from the same locality.]]></p></abstract>
