<body><![CDATA[<p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2"><b>Keywords:</b> Albinism, oak forest, pigmentation, Rodentia, small mammals.</font></p>  	    <p>&nbsp;</p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2"><b>Introducci&oacute;n</b></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">Cada especie animal tiene una coloraci&oacute;n caracter&iacute;stica, que desempe&ntilde;a diferentes funciones en la comunicaci&oacute;n intra e interespec&iacute;fica, como son el camuflaje, el mimetismo, la advertencia y la selecci&oacute;n sexual; as&iacute; mismo influye en algunas funciones fisiol&oacute;gicas como la termorregulaci&oacute;n (Caro 2005; Mullen y Hoekstra 2008; Protas y Patel 2008; Hubbard <i>et al</i>. 2010; Vignieri <i>et al</i>. 2010). De manera que un individuo con una coloraci&oacute;n diferente puede estar en desventaja en su medio, comparado con aquellos que poseen la coloraci&oacute;n "t&iacute;pica" de la especie (Kaufman 1974; Vignieri <i>et</i> <i>al</i>. 2010), aunque, si las condiciones del medio cambian esta podr&iacute;a ser una ventaja (Hoekstra 2011).</font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">En los mam&iacute;feros la pigmentaci&oacute;n cut&aacute;nea est&aacute; bajo control de al menos 150 alelos distribuidos en 100 loci. Las prote&iacute;nas producidas act&uacute;an como enzimas, prote&iacute;nas estructurales, reguladores de transcripci&oacute;n, transportadores, receptores y factores de crecimiento, por lo tanto la presencia del gen albino puede afectar diferentes funciones celulares (Slominski <i>et al</i>. 2004). El albinismo es una anormalidad gen&eacute;tica relacionada con la s&iacute;ntesis y transporte de melanina, que en los roedores se manifiesta en la hipopigmentaci&oacute;n de la piel, pelo y ojos, var&iacute;a desde la ausencia de &eacute;sta sustancia hasta diferentes grados de pigmentaci&oacute;n (Beerman <i>et al</i>. 2004). As&iacute; mismo el ojo de un albino puede sufrir de una reducci&oacute;n en la agudeza visual, nistagmus, iris trasl&uacute;cido, hipopigmentaci&oacute;n retiniana e hipoplasia foveal (Carden <i>et al</i>. 1998; Wasowicz <i>et al</i>. 2002; Spritz <i>et al</i>. 2003; Stinchcombe <i>et al</i>. 2004; Wong y Brown 2008). Otro tipo de expresi&oacute;n anormal de hipopigmentaci&oacute;n es el leucismo, que se caracteriza porque el animal mantiene la coloraci&oacute;n normal de los ojos y un patr&oacute;n de coloraci&oacute;n con manchas blanquecinas, pero &eacute;sta anomal&iacute;a est&aacute; relacionada con otro tipo de genes y deficiencias durante el desarrollo (Metallinos <i>et al</i>. 1994; Roix <i>et al</i>. 2001; Treitler <i>et al</i>. 2013). La rareza de los albinos en estado silvestre, entonces puede deberse a la selecci&oacute;n negativa a la que est&aacute;n sometidos los organismos portadores de este gen, debido a que su coloraci&oacute;n los hace m&aacute;s conspicuos a los depredadores y a sus presas en su medio natural, a la dificultad que se enfrentan para interaccionar con sus cong&eacute;neres y a los efectos delet&eacute;reos que sufre el ojo, todo ello los limita a tener una esperanza de vida corta.</font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">El hallazgo de mam&iacute;feros albinos silvestres es un evento aislado, debido a la rareza de estos (Robinson 1973; Caro 2005). Se han reportado albinos en diferentes grupos de mam&iacute;feros como carn&iacute;voros (Blaszczyk <i>et al</i>. 2007), murci&eacute;lagos (S&aacute;nchez&#45;Hern&aacute;ndez <i>et</i> <i>al</i>. 2010; Treitler <i>et al</i>. 2013) y roedores entre otros. Entre los roedores existen reportes de animales albinos en cric&eacute;tidos (Ram&iacute;rez y Arana 2005), dasipr&oacute;ctidos (Oliveira 2009), equ&iacute;midos (Pessoa y Reis 2002), ge&oacute;midos (La Voie <i>et al</i>. 1971), heter&oacute;midos (von Bloeker 1930), microtinos (Whitman 2009), m&uacute;ridos (Kaufman 1974) y esci&uacute;ridos (Best <i>et al</i>. 1990).</font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">El rat&oacute;n espinoso <i>Liomys pictus</i> es un heter&oacute;mido caracter&iacute;stico de las selvas bajas de M&eacute;xico, aunque penetra a bosques de encino (Ceballos 1990), especie casi end&eacute;mica de M&eacute;xico con algunas poblaciones en el Noroeste de Guatemala y de quien no existe reporte previo de albinismo. Por lo tanto es de gran importancia la captura de una hembra adulta de esta especie, la cual fue hallada el 22 julio de 2011 en la Mina "Los Filos", 5.5 km S, 10 km W Mezcala, Mpio. Eduardo Neri (17.89639&ordm; N; 99.6825&ordm; W), 1,339 msnm, en el estado de Guerrero, colectada en una l&iacute;nea de 30 trampas Sherman colocadas en un bosque de encino, en este muestreo tambi&eacute;n se capturo a <i>Osgoodomys</i> <i>banderanus</i>. El ejemplar est&aacute; depositado en la Colecci&oacute;n Nacional de Mam&iacute;feros (CNMA) del Instituto de Biolog&iacute;a, de la Universidad Nacional Aut&oacute;noma de M&eacute;xico, con n&uacute;mero de cat&aacute;logo 46157, con las siguientes medidas: medidas convencionales externas 205, 114, 27, 13, sin peso; y las del cr&aacute;neo: longitud m&aacute;xima del cr&aacute;neo 29.6, longitud condilobasal 25.1, longitud hilera maxilar de dientes 4.3, anchura m&aacute;xima del cr&aacute;neo 14.3, anchura cigom&aacute;tica 14.4 y anchura paladar 5.7.</font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">La hembra de <i>L. pictus</i> ten&iacute;a los ojos rojizos; piel rosada; garras transparentes; vientre, patas, cola, orejas y punta del hocico cubiertos con pelos blanquecinos; rostro, lados del cuerpo y dorso cubierto con pelos color crema. La mayor&iacute;a de los pelos delgados tienen una banda subterminal gris&aacute;cea mientras que en los pelos de guarda la banda gris&aacute;cea es terminal (<a href="#f1">Fig. 1</a>). El fenotipo del animal capturado es parecido al tipo denominado albinismo "platinado" descrito por Beerman <i>et al</i>. (2004) para el rat&oacute;n de laboratorio y que corresponde al segundo de 10 tipos, despu&eacute;s del albino completo. El hallazgo de animales albinos adultos resulta interesante desde el punto de vista gen&eacute;tico y ecol&oacute;gico, debido a que te&oacute;ricamente estos individuos tienen menor probabilidad de supervivencia por los efectos delet&eacute;reos del gen.
