Se empleó el diseño de regresiones discontinuas difusas para tratamientos múltiples con cuatro puntos de corte en la variable de asignación (índice de ayuda). Los resultados obtenidos muestran que los efectos marginales sobre los distintos tipos de deserción son significativos y presentan los signos esperados (negativo). Un aumento del 1% en el descuento de la matrícula reduce la deserción temprana en aproximadamente 1% y 0.5% la deserción tardía; mientras que eleva en 0.6% la tasa de egreso. La evidencia pareciera mostrar que se requiere introducir cambios en el programa en términos de los criterios de asignación y los montos de apoyo económico.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo A presente pesquisa avaliou o impacto do programa de ajudas económicas da Universidad Católica Andrés Bello, Caracas, Venezuela, sobre o abandono e a formação. Utilizou-se o desenho de regressões descontinuas difusas para tratamentos múltiplos com quatro pontos de corte na variável de repartição (índice de ajuda). Os resultados obtidos mostram que os efeitos secundários sobre os diferentes tipos de abandono são significativos e apresentam os signos esperados (negativo). Um aumento de 1% no desconto da matrícula reduz o abandono precoce em aproximadamente 1% e 0.5% o abandono tardio; ao passo que eleva em 0.6% a taxa de formados. A evidência parece mostrar que se requer introduzir mudanças no programa em términos dos critérios de designação e nos valores de apoio econômico.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The present research evaluated the impact of the financial aid program implemented by the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello, Caracas, Venezuela, on dropout and graduation. A fuzzy regression design was used for multiple treatments with four cut- off points in the assignment variable (aid index). The results obtained show that the marginal effects on the different types of dropout are significant and present the expected signs (negative). A 1% increase in the tuition discount reduces early dropout by approximately 1% and 0.5% reduces late dropout; at the same time, it raises the graduation rate by 0.6%. The evidence seems to show that changes are needed in the program in terms of allocation criteria and amounts of financial support.]]></p></abstract>
