</abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en">
Abstract The first part of this article explores the multiplicity of language and form in the novel Tinísima, by Elena Poniatowska. The second half will explore how the aftermath of Tina Modotti’s chaotic life as a seductive, charismatic, workaholic young woman, as reflected in Poniatowska’s narrative choices, leaves Modotti empty and lacking a true sense of self. It will also question Modotti’s repeated reinvention of herself, her self-identification through her love, and the control and sense of identity she temporarily achieves through photography.
</abstract>
