<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S2007-249X2017000100005&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S2007-249X2017000100005&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S2007-249X2017000100005&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen: La presente INVESTIGACIÓN se enfocó en desarrollar y evaluar un método viable para la conservación de bienes arqueológicos manufacturados con fibras duras (palma), encontrados en contextos secos (Cueva del Lazo, Chiapas, México) y anegados (depósitos rituales de la Zona Arqueológica del Templo Mayor de Tenochtitlan, Ciudad de México, México), es decir, en las dos condiciones ambientales más favorables para la preservación de materiales celulósicos. Su finalidad fue probar tres diferentes productos de consolidación: almidón, lactitol y quitina, en mezcla con un flexibilizante (polietilenglicol, o PEG) en diferentes concentraciones. Se ponderaron los resultados postratamiento en relación con las características físicas macroscópicas en los objetos tratados, en particular: la ganancia en resistencia física, el mejoramiento en la cohesión de las fibras y la optimización de su flexibilidad. La microscopia electrónica de barrido (MEB) sirvió para visualizar la extensión de la consolidación en las estructuras celulares y, con ello, corroborar las características macroscópicas logradas con los sistemas aplicados. Como resultado, este estudio determinó las variantes más adecuadas en el tratamiento de estabilización de elementos arqueológicos elaborados en fibras duras.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: This research focused on developing and assessing a viable method for the conservation of archeological artefacts made of hard-fibers (palm), which were found in both with dry (Cueva del Lazo, Chiapas, Mexico) and wet (ritual deposits of the Archeological Site of the Templo Mayor de Tenochtitlan, Mexico City, Mexico) contexts; that is, the most favorable environmental conditions for the preservation of cellulosic materials. Its purpose was to test three different consolidation products: starch, lactitol, and chitin in a mixture with a flexibilizer (polyethylene glycol or PEG) at different concentrations. The studie evaluated the results post-treatment in relation to the macroscopic physical characteristics in the treated objects, particularly: the physical resistance gain, the improvement in the fibers´ cohesion and the enhancement of their flexibility. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) served to visualize the extent of consolidation in the cellular structures and, thus, to corroborate the macroscopic characteristics achieved with the applied consolidation systems. As a result, this investigation determined the most adequate variants for the estabilization treatment of hard-fiber archeological elements.]]></p></abstract>
