Sin embargo, el término tiene tantos significados y es usado tan inconsistentemente que sus aportes son difíciles de sistematizar, obstaculizando la generación de teorías pertinentes y buenas prácticas. Para ponderarlas adecuadamente, es indispensable considerar los problemas fundamentales que comparten tales literaturas. El artículo argumenta que la cooperación, la auto-organización, la rendición de cuentas, el timoneo efectivo y la interdisciplinariedad se encuentran en el centro de la gobernanza y en la raíz de muchos problemas urbanos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Governance literatures have generated conceptual categories that are helpful to understand governance patterns, including those of urban governance. However, the term&#8217;s meanings are so numerous, and its usage so inconsistent, that its contributions are difficult to identify and to consolidate into coherent theories and good practices. In order to evaluate them adequately, it is necessary to consider the fundamental problems shared by those literatures. This article argues that cooperation, self-organisation, accountability, effective governmental steering, and interdisciplinarity are at the centre of governance, and at the origin of many urban problems.]]></p></abstract>
