<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S2007-11242021000100018&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S2007-11242021000100018&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S2007-11242021000100018&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The objectives were to study the associations of concentrations of &#946;-hydroxybutyrate acid (BHBA), calcium (Ca2+), and non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) in blood serum 7 d prepartum with losses in milk yield (MY) and metabolic dysfunctions at seven and 14 d of lactation. Three hundred and thirty-six (336) Holstein-Friesian (780 ± 36 kg BW; which had lactated more than twice) were sampled by coccygeal venipuncture, 7 d before, and 7 and 14 d after parturition. For each sample and metabolite serum concentrations were stratified in thresholds and related to MY. When BHBA levels were high 7 d before parturition and were related to MY at d-7 postpartum, it was observed that 11.00 % of the cows lost 0.370 kg d-1 of milk. In contrast, no relationship was observed between BHBA prepartum and MY on d-14 of lactation. It was not observed any association between high NEFA and low Ca2+ levels prepartum and MY. NEFA concentrations &#8805; 0.5 mmol L-1 on d-7 before calving were 7.6 more susceptible for lameness incidence (P&#8804; 0.01), and when BHBA &#8805; 0.8 mmol L-1 cows were 2.4 times more likely to develop ketosis (P&#8804;0.05) in the first 60 d in milk. In brief, data indicate that a high proportion of cows are above the thresholds of &#946;-hydroxybutyrate and non-esterified fatty acids, and are also deficient in calcium, when determined one week before parturition. The risk thresholds for each metabolite were not associated with the amount of milk lost at d-14 after calving.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Los objetivos fueron estudiar las asociaciones de las concentraciones de &#946;-ácido de hidroxibutirato (BHBA), calcio (Ca2+) y ácidos grasos no esterificados (NEFA) en el suero sanguíneo 7 días antes del parto con pérdidas en el rendimiento de la leche (RL) y disfunciones metabólicas a los días 7 y 14 de la lactancia. Se tomaron muestras de 336 vacas Holstein-Frisian (780 ± 36 kg de peso vivo) que habían lactado más de dos veces, por venipuntura coxígea, 7 días antes, y 7 y 14 días después del parto. Para cada muestra y metabolito, las concentraciones séricas se estratificaron en umbrales y se relacionaron con el RL. En aquellos casos en que los niveles de BHBA eran elevados 7 días antes del parto y estaban relacionados con el RL en el 7° día del postparto, se observó que el 11 % de las vacas perdieron 0.370 kg día-1 de leche. Por el contrario, no se observó ninguna relación entre el BHBA preparto y el RL en el 14° día de la lactancia. No se observó ninguna asociación entre los niveles elevados de NEFA y bajos de Ca2+ del preparto y el RL. Las concentraciones de NEFA &#8805; 0.5 mmol L-1 en el 7° día antes del parto fueron 7.6 veces más susceptibles a la incidencia de cojera (P&#8804; 0.01), y en aquellos casos en que el BHBA fue &#8805; 0.8 mmol L-1, las vacas tuvieron 2.4 veces más probabilidades de desarrollar cetosis (P&#8804;0.05) en los primeros 60 días en leche. En resumen, los datos indican que una alta proporción de vacas está por encima de los umbrales de &#946;-hidroxibutirato y de ácidos grasos no esterificados, y también son deficientes en calcio, cuando se determina una semana antes del parto. Los umbrales de riesgo de cada metabolito no se asociaron con la cantidad de leche perdida en el día 14 después del parto.]]></p></abstract>
