Su análisis es fundamentar para la producción agrícola y forestal. El método de Walkley-Black, es el estándar establecido en la normativa mexicana, aunque presenta desventajas ambientales al utilizar reactivos químicos tóxicos con características particulares de manejo. Por esta razón, se propone como alternativa el método de calcinación, que cuantifica directamente el contenido de materia orgánica en el suelo, mediante la determinación de la pérdida de peso de una muestra al someterse a altas temperaturas. En este estudio se compararon ambos métodos en muestras de suelos enriquecidos con residuo sólido de café y con composta elaborada de rsc/estiércol bovino. Los datos fueron analizados estadísticamente para evaluar la equivalencia entre los métodos. Los resultados mostraron una alta correlación (r= 0.951) y ausencia de diferencias significativas (p = 0.94), lo que respalda la viabilidad de utilizar el método de calcinación como alternativa al método Walkley-Black por la alta correlación en los valores de materia orgánica al ser analizados por los dos métodos analíticos. Se sugiere la posibilidad de modificar la normativa vigente para incorporar el método de calcinación, ofreciendo una opción segura y ecológica para determinar materia orgánica en el suelo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Organic matter is an indicator of soil quality and fertility and directly influences its physical, chemical, and biological properties. Its analysis is fundamental for agricultural and forestry production. The Walkley-Black method is the standard established in Mexican regulations; nevertheless, it has environmental disadvantages as it uses toxic chemical reagents with handling characteristics. For this reason, the calcination method is proposed as an alternative, which directly quantifies the content of organic matter in the soil by determining the weight loss of a sample when subjected to high temperatures. In this study, both methods were compared in soil samples enriched with solid coffee waste and with compost made from scw/bovine manure. The data were statistically analyzed to assess equivalence between the methods. The results showed a high correlation (r= 0.951) and absence of significant differences (p = 0.94), which supports the feasibility of using the calcination method as an alternative to the Walkley-Black method, given the high correlation in the values of organic matter when analyzed by both analytical methods. The possibility of modifying the current regulations to incorporate the calcination method is suggested, providing a safe and ecological option for determining organic matter in the soil.]]></p></abstract>
