Las prácticas agrícolas que emplean han sido escasamente evaluadas y se corre el riesgo que la producción intensiva de alimentos a largo plazo resulte en la disminución de la fertilidad y productividad de los suelos. Se estudió el efecto de la aplicación de fertilizantes orgánicos en Brassica rapa L. var. chinensis (pak choi) y Brassica oleracea L. var. acephala (kale) en dos ciclos de crecimiento (primavera verano y otoño invierno) y en la calidad química del suelo. Los experimentos de campo se realizaron, en los municipios de Teotihuacán y Texcoco, Estado de México. El diseño experimental fue bloques al azar. Los tratamientos ensayados fueron: composta 10 t ha-1, composta 10 t ha-1 + supermagro al 4%, supermagro al 4% y testigo sin aplicación. Se evaluaron variables de respuesta morfológicas, rendimiento de los cultivos e indicadores de calidad química del suelo (pH, conductividad eléctrica, materia orgánica, NKjeldahl, POlsen y las bases de intercambio K, Ca, Mg y Na. Los resultados se analizaron con el paquete estadístico SAS 9.0. En ambos sitios la aplicación de estos fertilizantes orgánicos aumentó el rendimiento comercial de ambas verduras, así como algunas variables morfológicas. Los tratamientos experimentados mejoraron o al menos mantuvieron, la fertilidad inicial de los suelos, en el corto plazo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract A growing number of farmers in the east of the State of Mexico produce healthy, quality food that they sell in local organic markets. Their agricultural practices have been poorly evaluated, and there is a risk that long-term intensive food production will result in decreased soil fertility and productivity. The effect of the application of organic fertilizers on Brassica rapa L. var. chinensis (pak choi) and Brassica oleracea L. var. acephala (kale) in two growth cycles (spring-summer and autumn-winter) and on the chemical quality of the soil was studied. The field experiments were carried out in the municipalities of Teotihuacán and Texcoco, State of Mexico. The experimental design was randomized blocks. The treatments tested were compost 10 t ha-1, compost 10 t ha-1 + 4% supermagro, 4% supermagro, and a control without application. Variables of morphological response, crop yield, and soil chemical quality indicators (pH, electrical conductivity, organic matter, NKjeldahl, POlsen, and K, Ca, Mg, and Na exchange bases) were evaluated. The results were analyzed using the SAS 9.0 statistical package. In both sites, applying these organic fertilizers increased the commercial yield of both vegetables and some morphological variables. The treatments experimented improved, or at least maintained, the initial fertility of the soils in the short term.]]></p></abstract>
