</abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en">
Abstract The work of the Italian philosopher Dino Formaggio stands out for the way in which, during the 20th century, he attempted to rescue Aesthetics from the reduction to a philosophy of art implemented, in the contemporary era, especially by German idealism. Based on the studies of Max Dessoir and the Munich phenomenologists, the Italian philosopher returned the meaning of this discipline to its origins, when Baumgarten proposed the birth of a science that sought to understand the character of truth that unfolds and reveals itself in works of art, in this specific case, poetry. Dino Formaggio's work therefore represents the search for the status of a rigorous philosophical discipline independent of both the natural and social sciences and the history and theory of art, yet in broad contact with them. During the second half of the 20th century, the notions of body and sensibility, studied by the Italian philosopher within the framework of a phenomenological perspective, would pave the way for a solid proposal moving in this direction. The aim of this article is, on the one hand, to illustrate how this path takes shape in Dino Formaggio's thought and, on the other, to propose a reading that fits into and contributes positively to the debate on the meaning of the Humanities in the contemporary world.
</abstract>
