Registros de plumajes atípicos en aves silvestres son cada vez más comunes, y compilar estos registros da luces de las causas o señala las especies más vulnerables. Entre los años 2015 y 2024 compilamos registros de plumajes atípicos en especies de aves silvestres ecuatorianas mediante observaciones de campo, búsquedas bibliográficas, en plataformas de ciencia ciudadana y grupos en redes sociales. Además, evaluamos la correlación de frecuencia de estos registros con rasgos de las especies: tamaño corporal, amplitud de distribución en Ecuador, presencia en zonas urbanas, frecuencia de observaciones de las especies y número de observadores de aves en cada provincia. Presentamos un total de 130 registros inéditos de especies de aves con plumaje aberrante, adicionando 35 especies sin registros previos. La mayoría de casos provinieron todavía de la región andina, aunque también se obtuvo registros en la región costa, Amazonia e islas Galápagos. Encontramos correlaciones positivas de número de registros de aberraciones de plumaje con la presencia en áreas urbanas y número de observaciones de las especies. Notablemente registramos un alto número de individuos de Colibri coruscans atípicos en la ciudad de Quito, además de registros en aves marinas y dependientes de bosque. Las aves con plumajes atípicos fueron más frecuentes en especies ampliamente distribuidas y que habitan en paisajes urbanos o antropogénicos andinos, tales como C. coruscans, Turdus fuscater y Zonotrichia capensis, lo que sugiere sesgos de observación y la importancia de rasgos ecológicos de las aves como la tolerancia a paisajes antropogénicos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract. Records of aberrant plumage in wild birds are increasingly common. Compiling these records sheds light on the causes or signals the most vulnerable species. From 2015 to 2024, we compiled records of aberrant plumage in Ecuadorian wild bird species through field observations, and searches in scientific references, citizen science platforms, and social network groups. We also assessed the correlation between the frequency of these records with species traits: body size, distribution range in Ecuador, presence in urban environments, frequency of observation, and the number of birdwatchers in each province. We present a total of 130 new records of bird species with plumage aberrations, adding 35 species not previously registered. Most records still come from the Andean region, although records were also obtained from the coast, Amazon, and Galapagos Islands. We found positive correlations for the frequency of plumage aberration records with presence in urban areas, and number of observations of the species. Notably, we registered a high number of atypical Colibri coruscans individuals in the city of Quito, as well as records in seabirds and forest-dependent species. Birds with aberrant plumage were more frequent in species that are widely distributed, and inhabit urban or man-made Andean landscapes, such as C. coruscans, Turdus fuscater, and Zonotrichia capensis, suggesting an observational bias and the importance of ecological traits of birds such as tolerance to anthropogenic landscapes.]]></p></abstract>
