La hernia inguinal, ya sea directa o indirecta, es la más común de la pared abdominal.  Objetivo:  Analizar la prevalencia de hernias inguinales directas e indirectas, diagnosticadas por TC abdominal en pacientes con índice de masa corporal (IMC) mayor a 25 kg/m2.  Material y métodos:  Se llevó a cabo un estudio retrospectivo de las TC abdominales con y sin medio de contraste, entre marzo de 2023 y junio de 2024, utilizando el archivo digital del Hospital Angeles Mocel. Se incluyeron pacientes mayores de 18 años con IMC &gt; 25 kg/m2.  Resultados:  La hernia indirecta fue más frecuente en pacientes con sobrepeso con 54 pacientes (46.1%), seguida de obesidad grado I con hernia indirecta con 33 pacientes (28.2%), con una p = 0.019; el lado más frecuente fue el izquierdo en sobrepeso, con 23 pacientes (39.6%), seguido del lado derecho con 18 pacientes (15.3%) y bilateral con 17 pacientes (14.5%), con una p = 0.036.  Conclusión:  La TC es una herramienta eficaz para el diagnóstico adecuado de hernias inguinales, ya que no es operador dependiente. En este estudio se alcanzó una prevalencia del 40.1% de este padecimiento.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  Introduction:  Computed tomography (CT) can measure the attenuation or absorption of the X-ray beam as it passes through sections of the body at different angles. Inguinal hernias, whether direct or indirect, are the most common type of abdominal wall hernia.  Objective:  To analyze the prevalence of direct and indirect inguinal hernias diagnosed by abdominal CT in patients with a body mass index (BMI) greater than 25 kg/m².  Material and methods:  A retrospective study was conducted on abdominal CT scans, with and without contrast, performed between March 2023 and June 2024 using the digital archive of Hospital Angeles Mocel. Patients over 18 years of age with a BMI &gt; 25 kg/m² were included.  Results:  Indirect hernias were more frequent among overweight patients, accounting for 54 cases (46.1%), followed by grade I obesity with indirect hernia in 33 patients (28.2%) (p = 0.019). The most common side was the left in overweight individuals, with 23 patients (39.6%), followed by the right side with 18 patients (15.3%), and bilateral presentation in 17 patients (14.5%) (p = 0.036).  Conclusion:  CT is an effective tool for the accurate diagnosis of inguinal hernias, as it is not operator-dependent. In this study, a prevalence of 40.1% for this condition was observed.]]></p></abstract>
