La característica escasez de síntomas que produce se relaciona con su proliferación indolente, lo que a su vez retrasa el diagnóstico hasta que se realizan los estudios de imagen adecuados. La resonancia magnética (RM) se ha considerado la mejor herramienta para investigar estos tumores, ya que permite la caracterización de la anatomía del tumor y de los tejidos circundantes para el adecuado manejo.  Caso clínico:  presentamos un hombre de 40 años con dolor en región dorsal de un mes de evolución, acude a valoración de tórax mediante resonancia magnética.  Conclusión:  la RM es esencial para establecer el diagnóstico y realizar la planeación quirúrgica, siendo la resección quirúrgica la elección principal para el tratamiento.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  Introduction:  thoracic schwannoma is a neurogenic, encapsulated, well-defined tumor, most frequently in the posterior mediastinum. The characteristic lack of symptoms it produces is related to their indolent growth, which delays diagnosis until appropriate imaging studies are performed. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been considered the best tool to investigate schwannomas since it allows the characterization of this tumor&#8217;s anatomy and the surrounding tissues for proper management.  Clinical case:  we present a 40-year-old male with a one-month history of pain in the dorsal region, which was referred for a thoracic MRI evaluation.  Conclusion:  MRI is essential to establish the diagnosis and surgical planning, with surgical resection being the leading choice for treatment.]]></p></abstract>
