El objetivo de este estudio es comparar los compartimentos visceral y subcutáneo entre pacientes con esteatosis hepática en comparación con pacientes con circunferencia de cintura aumentada por tomografía axial computarizada.  Material y métodos:  se realizó estudio observacional, transversal y analítico en el Servicio de Radiología e Imagen del Hospital Angeles Mocel. Se analizaron estudios de tomografía axial computarizada de abdomen de dos grupos de pacientes. Se identificó el nivel umbilical para el cálculo de área de grasa visceral y subcutánea, así como cálculo de circunferencia de cintura, cadera e índice de cintura/cadera.  Resultados:  existen diferencias estadísticamente significativas en exceso de grasa visceral en pacientes con esteatosis a diferencia de pacientes con aumento de la circunferencia de cintura.  Conclusión:  la mayor parte de los pacientes con esteatosis hepática tienen obesidad visceral por tomografía computarizada, por lo que es un factor de riesgo para su presentación.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  Introduction:  obesity, specifically visceral fat accumulation, has been related to metabolic diseases, such as hepatic steatosis. The study aims to compare the visceral and subcutaneous compartments of patients with hepatic steatosis to those with high waist circumference by computed tomography.  Material and methods:  an observational, cross-sectional, and analytical study was carried out in the Radiology and Imaging department of Hospital Angeles Mocel. Abdominal computed tomography studies of two groups of patients were analyzed. The umbilical level was identified to calculate visceral and subcutaneous fat area and the calculation of waist and hip circumference and waist/hip ratio.  Results:  there are statistically significant differences in excess visceral fat in patients with steatosis compared to patients with increased waist circumference.  Conclusion:  most of the patients with hepatic steatosis have visceral obesity by computed tomography, which is why it is a risk factor for its presentation.]]></p></abstract>
