Este ecosistema de microorganismos, en su conjunto resguarda un genoma más amplio que el del ser humano, lo cual le confiere capacidad de regular procesos que convergen en la fisiología de diversas vías inmunológicas y en la fisiopatología de enfermedades intestinales y extraintestinales. Aplicar estos nuevos conceptos en la evaluación clínica, paraclínica y terapéutica de un paciente hoy en día representa un reto, ya que los factores implicados en la formación de la microbiota, en los cambios que presenta a lo largo de la vida y los factores que influyen en alterar y mantener su composición, diversidad y metabolismo, son muy variables. Algunos fuera de nuestro control como el tipo de nacimiento, pero otros como la dieta, consumo de fibra y probióticos, interfieren de manera importante con modificaciones a la microbiota y posteriormente a la salud en general del huésped. La siguiente revisión consiste en una síntesis de los aspectos funcionales más relevantes de la microbiota intestinal, esto con el objetivo de difundir el tema y motivar a nuevas investigaciones enfocadas a aplicaciones clínico-terapéuticas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: In the last 10 years, a lot of articles have been published related to the human microbiota, especially in the gut. This ecosystem of microorganisms, as a whole, has a genome broader than human, that gives microbiota the ability to regulate processes that converge in the physiology of immunological pathways and in the pathophysiology of intestinal and extra-intestinal diseases. Applying these new concepts in the clinical, para-clinical and therapeutic evaluation of a patient, today represents a challenge, because factors involved in the formation of the microbiota, in the changes it presents throughout life and the factors that influence in modify and maintain its composition, diversity and metabolism, are highly variable. Some are beyond our control, such as the type of birth, but others not, such as diet, fiber consumption and probiotics, they interfere significantly with modifications to microbiota and subsequently to the general health of the guest. The following review consists in a synthesis of the most relevant functional aspects of the intestinal microbiota, this with the aim to spread the topic and to motivate in new research focused on clinical-therapeutic applications.]]></p></abstract>
