La prevalencia de adenomiosis fue de 33.33% (80 pacientes). De éstas, ninguna fue diagnosticada con adenomiosis antes de la cirugía. Los factores de riesgo asociados significativamente a adenomiosis fueron: antecedente de embarazo mayor de 22 semanas (OR 9.904), antecedente de aborto (OR 3.088) y antecedente de cirugía uterina (OR 3.08). El diagnóstico clínico previo a la histerectomía, asociado significativamente a adenomiosis, fue el de hiperplasia endometrial (OR 8.78), mientras que el diagnóstico de miomatosis uterina fue un factor protector (OR 0.37). El análisis estadístico se realizó mediante prueba de &#967;2 de Mantel y Haenszel, test de p (Mid-p exacto) y razón de momios (odds ratio) con intervalos de confianza. La adenomiosis es una condición poco estudiada, con prevalencia importante y baja especificidad del diagnóstico clínico (de 2 a 27%). La identificación de los factores de riesgo mencionados, en especial en pacientes sin miomatosis uterina, puede inducir a una búsqueda dirigida de datos de adenomiosis por ultrasonido, lo que ayudaría a llegar a un diagnóstico y tratamiento adecuados de dicha enfermedad.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: We conducted a prevalence and case-control study that included 258 patients on which hysterectomy was performed in the hospital Unidad Médica de Alta Especialidad 4 in Mexico City. The prevalence of adenomyosis was 33.33% (80 patients). None of them were diagnosed with this disease before the surgery. There was a significant association between adenomyosis and the following risk factors: previous pregnancy beyond 22 weeks (OR 9.904), previous abortion (OR 3.088) and previous uterine surgery (OR 3.78). The was also a significant association between the diagnosis before hysterectomy of endometrial hyperplasia (OR 8.78), while the diagnosis of uterine fibroids before hysterectomy was identified as a protective factor (OR 0.37). The statistic analysis was performed using Mantel and Haenszel &#967;2 test, p test (exact Mid-p) and odds ratio with confidence intervals. Adenomyosis is a poorly studied condition, with an important prevalence and a clinical diagnosis of low specificity (2 to 27%). The identification of the mentioned risk factors, specially in patients without uterine fibroids, brings the opportunity of a directed search of adenomyosis criteria by ultrasound, which could improve the correct diagnosis and treatment of the disease.]]></p></abstract>
