<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S1870-34532021000100605&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S1870-34532021000100605&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S1870-34532021000100605&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract A new nematode species, Rhabdochona juliacarabiasae sp. n. is described from specimens recovered from the intestine of the freshwater Mexican mojarra, Eugerres mexicanus (Steindachner) (Gerreidae) captured in the Lacantún River, Chiapas, Mexico. Rhabdochona juliacarabiasae sp. n. is characterized by possessing a prostome armed with 12 anterior teeth (excepcionally 11), small bifurcated deirids with a markedly long base, an unusual tetrafurcate tip of the larger (left) spicule, a smaller (right) spicule without dorsal barb on its distal tip, and eggs with 1 short filament on each pole. In addition, in order to assess the phylogenetic relationships of the new species, and further demonstrate its distinctiveness against closely related congeners, specimens of R. juliacarabiasae sp. n, R. xiphophori, R. salgadoi, R. kidderi, R. canadensis, R. guerreroensis, and R. mexicana were sequenced for the cox1 gene, and the sequences were aligned with other nematode sequences available in GenBank (R. adentata, R. ahuhuellensis, R. ictaluri, and R. osorioi). Maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference analyses indicated that this new nested in a well-supported clade with high posterior probability. The molecular analyses support the validity of the new species. R. juliacarabiasae sp. n. was recovered as sister to the clade formed by R. kidderi and R. ictaluri, and shows genetic divergence that range between 11.18 and 14.89% (P- distances) compared with other congeners.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Una especie nueva de nemátodo, Rhabdochona juliacarabiasae sp. n., se describe a partir de ejemplares obtenidos del intestino de la mojarra mexicana de agua dulce Eugerres mexicanus (Steindachner) (Gerreidae), capturada en el río Lacantún, Chiapas, México. Rhabdochona juliacarabiasae sp. n. se caracteriza por poseer un prostoma armado con 12 dientes anteriores (excepcionalmente 11), pequeños deiridios bifurcados con una base marcadamente larga, una inusual terminación tetrafurcada de la espícula más grande (izquierda), la espícula derecha más pequeña y sin barba dorsal en su punta distal, y huevos con un filamento corto en los polos. Además, con el fin de evaluar las relaciones filogenéticas de la nueva especie y enfatizar más su carácter distintivo, con respecto a congéneres relacionados cercanamente, se comparó el gen cox1 de ejemplares de R. juliacarabiasae sp. n. con los de R. xiphophori, R. salgadoi, R. kidderi, R. canadensis, R. guerreroensis y R. mexicana; las secuencias se alinearon con otras secuencias de nemátodos disponibles en GenBank (R. adentata, R. ahuhuellensis, R. ictaluri y R. osorioi). Los análisis de máxima probabilidad e inferencia bayesiana indicaron que esta nueva especie forma un clado independiente y bien soportado con alta probabilidad posterior. Los análisis moleculares apoyan la validez de la especie nueva basada en observaciones morfológicas. R. juliacarabiasae sp. n. se agrupa como clado hermano del formado por R. kidderi y R. ictaluri, y muestra una divergencia genética que oscila entre 11.18 y 14.89% (distancias P) comparada con otros congéneres.]]></p></abstract>
