Se muestrearon 5 localidades ubicadas en dirección norte-sur mediante una técnica mixta: transectos y puntos de conteo. La riqueza de especies decreció con el incremento de la latitud, reproduciendo el patrón de la riqueza regional informado en estudios previos. Los resultados apoyaron la "hipótesis de más individuos" como mecanismo explicativo del patrón latitudinal de diversidad, puesto que se encontró un gradiente latitudinal de riqueza y abundancia. La diversidad beta y la equidad no variaron latitudinalmente. Los resultados encontrados muestran que el componente alfa de la diversidad es más importante que el componente beta en cuanto a su influencia sobre el patrón latitudinal negativo de la riqueza regional de aves en un área subtropical. A pesar de las características ambientales exclusivas de los corredores ribereños, se encontró un patrón latitudinal negativo de la diversidad alfa, el cual está extendido en ambientes de tierra firme.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[We studied the variation of species richness (alpha diversity), beta diversity, abundance and evenness of bird assemblages along a latitudinal gradient of 500 km of riparian forests. We sampled 5 localities placed in north-south direction through a mixed sampling technique (transects and points count). Species richness decreased as latitude increased, reproducing the pattern of regional species richness reported in a previous study. Since we found a latitudinal pattern of species richness and abundance, results supported the "more individuals hypothesis" as a mechanism that explains the latitudinal pattern of diversity. Beta diversity and evenness did not vary latitudinally. Results showed that alpha component of diversity is more important than beta component in terms of its influence on the negative latitudinal pattern of regional richness of birds in a subtropical area. Despite the exclusive environmental characteristics of riparian corridors, we found a negative latitudinal pattern of alpha diversity which is widespread in upland environments.]]></p></abstract>
