Existen diversos factores para determinar el plan de tratamiento de estas maloclusiones como la edad, la maduración esquelética, hábitos, y la carga genética, entre otros.  Objetivo Corregir problemas esqueléticos y dentales clase III por hipoplasia maxilar, mediante el uso de máscara de protracción maxilar reversa y microosteoperforaciones, ya que es un tratamiento eficiente para obtener función y estética.  Presentación de caso Se presentó paciente masculino de 12 años con 10 meses de edad, clase III esquelética, braquifacial, mordida cruzada anterior esquelética y dental, tercio facial inferior ligeramente aumentado, clase III molar bilateral y clase III canina bilateral, con vías aéreas estrechas. Sin antecedentes patológicos. El plan de tratamiento ortopédico consiste en aplicación de tornillo Hyrax con bandas en maxilar apoyado en molares y premolares con uso de máscara facial reversa, durante 10 meses; realización de microosteoperforaciones con miniimplantes de 1.5mm x 8mm para estimular el movimiento óseo-dental; tratamiento ortodóncico sin extracciones con sistema de autoligado pasivo con tubos en primeros y segundos molares. Los resultados dentales y faciales obtenidos fueron satisfactorios. Se lograron una adecuada relación maxilomandibular de Clase I molar y canina y adecuadas sobremordidas horizontal y vertical; corrigiendo la hipoplasia maxilar y proporcionando rotación a la mandíbula hacia abajo y hacia atrás. Así mismo se corrigió la mordida cruzada anterior, clase I molar, líneas medias coincidentes.  Conclusiones El tratamiento adecuado de estas maloclusiones puede evitar la realización de extracciones o de cirugía ortognática. Los resultados también están determinados por la cooperación del paciente.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction Malocclusions have repercussions on the functional aspects of the maxillo-mandibular complex. There are several factors to determine the treatment plan of these malocclusions, such as age, skeletal maturation, habits, and genetics, among others.  Objective To correct skeletal and dental Class III problems due to maxillary hypoplasia, by using a reverse maxillary protraction mask and microosteoperforations, an efficient treatment to obtain function and esthetics.  Case presentation A male patient attended the clinic, aged 12 years and 10 months, skeletal class III, brachyfacial, with skeletal and dental anterior crossbite, slightly enlarged lower facial third, bilateral molar and canine class III, with narrow airways and no relevant past medical history. The orthopedic treatment plan included a Hyrax screw with bands in maxillary molars and premolars, with the use of a reverse face mask for 10 months, microosteoperforations with 1.5mm x 8mm mini-implants to stimulate bone-dental movement. Orthodontic treatment was performed without extractions, with a passive self-ligation system with tubes in first and second molars. As a result of treatment, dental and facial results were satisfactory. A normal maxillo-mandibular relationship with molar and canine class I and adequate overjet and overbite were achieved; the maxillary hypoplasia was corrected, and a downward and backward rotation of the mandible occurred. The anterior crossbite was also corrected, and coincident midlines were obtained.  Conclusions Adequate treatment of these malocclusions may avoid extractions or orthognathic surgery. The results are also determined by the patient&#8217;s cooperation.]]></p></abstract>
