Se incluyeron 18 pacientes (20 fisuras) que presentaban FLP y que habían sido tratados mediante un injerto óseo antes de la erupción del canino permanente. Todos los pacientes tenían un estudio radiográfico previo que comprendía de radiografías panorámicas, oclusales y retroalveolares y el promedio de edad era de 10.72 años en el momento de la cirugía. Todos los pacientes fueron intervenidos en el Hospital Luis Calvo MacKenna entre los años 2001 y 2005. A cada paciente se le realizó un completo estudio fotográfico y radiográfico posquirúrgico. Las variables evaluadas fueron; erupción del canino, clasificado como erupcionado o incluido (alto, intermedio o próximo al reborde), posición del canino en el arco (palatino, alineado o vestibular) y la formación de puente óseo. El análisis estadístico mediante Chi-cuadrada arrojó diferencias significativas sólo para la variable de formación de puente óseo, el resto de las variables como erupción del canino a través del injerto, la posición del canino en el arco y la posición del canino incluido no proporcionaron diferencias significativas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract This is a retrospective study which main purpose was to evaluate the eruption of the permanent canine through secondary bone grafts obtained from iliac crest in unilateral alveolar clefts. Eighteen patients (20 clefts) were included in this study; all of them had cleft lip and palate and had been treated with a bone graft before the eruption of the permanent canine. All the patients had a previous radiographic study with orthopantomography, periapical and occlusal radiographies. The mean age was 10.72 years at the time of the surgery. All patients were operated by the same surgeon at the Luis Calvo MacKenna Hospital between the years 2001 and 2005. Each patient had a complete post-surgery photographic and radiographic studies including the same radiographies that were asked before the surgery. The parameters studied were; eruption of the canine, classified as &#8220;Erupted&#8221; or &#8220;Included&#8221; (High, Intermediate or Close to the Alveolar Rim), the position of the erupted canine in the arch (palatine, aligned or buccal) and the formation of bone bridge between the maxillary segments. The Chi-Square statistical analysis showed significant differences only for the bone bridge formation, the other parameters did not show significant differences.]]></p></abstract>
