These novel monomers have been synthesized by the incorporation of thiol moiety in the side chain of peptide nucleic acid backbone. These novel &#945;-monomers have been identified with different spectroscopic techniques, notably infra-red spectroscopy, 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, supported by mass spectrometry.]]></p></abstract>
