En el presente trabajo se diseñó un medio de cultivo a base de peptona y extracto de levadura grado industrial para adaptar las líneas celulares OK, CHANG y LLCPK-1. Las tres líneas celulares se cultivaron exitosamente en una mezcla 25:75 de MEM:MD (MEM = medio testigo; MD = medio diseñado) determinado por la comparación de los parámetros de crecimiento, morfología celular y susceptibilidad a HgCl2 con el medio testigo MEM. Una proporción mayor de MD en la mezcla 5:95 produjo alteraciones morfológicas del núcleo, en la relación núcleo-citoplasma y una disminución en el crecimiento que no permitió la evaluación de los otros parámetros. La falta de crecimiento de las células cultivadas en la mezcla 5:95 y las alteraciones morfológicas observadas posiblemente se debieron a la concentración de metales en niveles tóxicos en el extracto de levadura y la peptona, así como a una baja concentración de zinc en el extracto de levadura.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Culture media formulation has a direct influence on growth, morphology and physiology of cells. In this work, a mammalian cell culture medium was formulated based on peptone and yeast extract with an industrial reagent level. Three different mammalian cell lines, OK, CHANG y LLCPK-1 were successfully grown in a 25:75 mix of MEM:MD (MEM = control medium; MD = house medium) as determined by comparing cell growth parameters, cellular morphology and susceptibility to HgCl2 with those obtained from cells grown in MEM medium. A greater amount of MD in the mix 5:95 produced nuclear morphological changes, altered nucleus-cytoplasm relationship and did not support cell growth, which was possibly due to a toxic concentration of metals in the peptone and yeast extract and also to the low concentration of zinc in the yeast extract.]]></p></abstract>

<body><![CDATA[<p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">Culture media formulation has a direct influence on growth, morphology and physiology of cells.
