Sin embargo, para obtener buenos rendimientos y alta calidad, es fundamental evaluar variedades y fechas de siembra antes de su establecimiento. El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar el potencial productivo de tres variedades de remolacha azucarera (Coronado, Syngenta y SesVanderHaven) en dos fechas de siembra en el Campo Experimental de la Universidad de Sonora, bajo un diseño en parcelas divididas. La variedad y fecha de siembra tuvieron un efecto significativo en el diámetro del tubérculo, sólidos solubles totales (SST) y producción de follaje. La variedad Coronado sembrada en el mes de noviembre presentó la mayor producción de tubérculos (109.2 t·ha-1) y mayor contenido de SST (19.3 °Brix), el mayor rendimiento de follaje (25.4 t·ha-1) en peso seco se obtuvo en el cultivar Coronado sembrado en el mes de octubre. Los rendimientos de tubérculos y SST obtenidos bajo las condiciones agroecológicas del presente estudio, son semejantes a los valores mayores reportados en la literatura, por lo que se concluye que bajo las condiciones climáticas en las que se desarrolló este experimento, es factible el cultivo de las tres variedades evaluadas en las dos fechas de siembras propuestas con rendimientos comparables a las explotaciones comerciales.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Sugar beet is traditionally grown in temperate zones, although the development of new varieties allows its exploitation in tropical and subtropical regions. However, in order to obtain good yields and high quality, it is essential to evaluate varieties and sowing dates before establishment. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the productive potential of three sugar beet varieties (Coronado, Syngenta, and SesVanderHaven) in two sowing dates in the Experimental Field of the University of Sonora, under split-plot design. The variety and sowing date had a significant effect on tuber diameter, total soluble solids (TSS) and foliage production. The Coronado variety sowing in November had the highest tubers production (109.2 t·ha-1) and highest TSS content (19.3 °Brix), while the highest foliage production (25.4 t·ha-1) in dry weight was obtained in the Coronado cultivar sowing in October. The tubers yields and TSS obtained under the agroecological conditions of this study are similar to the highest values reported in the literature, so it is concluded that under the climatic conditions of this study, it is feasible to cultivate the three varieties evaluated in the two dates of sowing proposed with yields comparable to commercial exploitations.]]></p></abstract>
