Método: Se realizó un análisis transversal utilizando datos de la Encuesta Demográfica y de Salud Familiar de Perú (2018-2023). Se emplearon modelos de regresión de Poisson con varianza robusta para evaluar la asociación entre las medidas antropométricas y la presión de pulso elevada (&#8805; 50 mmHg), ajustando por factores sociodemográficos y de estilo de vida.  Resultados: El CC-IMC mostró la asociación más consistente y robusta con la presión de pulso elevada en comparación con el IMC y la CC. La fuerza de la asociación fue mayor en los adultos menores de 60 años y en las mujeres. Se observó una atenuación del efecto en los mayores de 60 años para todas las medidas antropométricas. El CC-IMC presentó una relación más lineal y estable en los diferentes subgrupos poblacionales.  Conclusiones: el CC-IMC es un predictor más preciso de la presión de pulso elevada que el IMC o la CC por separado. La atenuación del efecto en adultos mayores y las diferencias por sexo subrayan la importancia de considerar factores demográficos en la evaluación del riesgo cardiovascular.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Objective: To compare body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC) and WC-BMI in predicting elevated pulse pressure and to examine how these associations vary by age and sex.  Method: A cross-sectional analysis used data from the Peru Demographic and Health Survey (2018-2023). Poisson regression models with robust variance were employed to evaluate the association between anthropometric measures and elevated pulse pressure (&#8805; 50 mmHg), adjusting for sociodemographic and lifestyle factors.  Results: WC-BMI showed the most consistent and robust association with elevated pulse pressure compared to BMI and WC. The strength of the association was more significant in adults under 60 years and women. An attenuation of the effect was observed in individuals over 60 years for all anthropometric measures. WC-BMI presented a more linear and stable relationship across different population subgroups.  Conclussions: WC-BMI predicts elevated pulse pressure more precisely than BMI or WC alone. The attenuation of the effect in older adults and the differences by sex highlights the importance of considering demographic factors in evaluating cardiovascular risk.]]></p></abstract>
