Asimismo, representan un problema de salud pública a nivel mundial. El agente etiológico principal es Escherichia coli uropatógena (UPEC), bacteria presente en más del 80% de las ITU adquiridas en la comunidad. A la fecha, varios autores han contribuido con estudios que describen los factores de virulencia que capacitan a Escherichia coli uropatógena para producir ITU. Sin embargo, lo que se sabe de la genética de este patógeno se encuentra restringido a un número limitado de genes que han servido para su clasificación como son los que codifican para diversos factores de virulencia, que no son compartidos por la totalidad de las Escherichia coli uropatógenas. Por ello, el objetivo de esta revisión es conocer el impacto que el análisis de la secuenciación del genoma completo ha tenido para entender el papel de UPEC como patógeno y como un complemento de otros estudios.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most common and recurrent bacterial infections affecting men and women at any age. They also represent a worldwide public health problem. The main etiological agent is uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC), present in more than 80% of community-acquired UTIs. To date, several authors have contributed studies describing the virulence factors that enable uropathogenic Escherichia coli to produce UTI. However, what is known about the genetics of this pathogen is restricted to a limited number of genes that have served for its classification, such as those coding for various virulence factors, which are not shared by all uropathogenic Escherichia coli. Therefore, the objective of this review is to know the impact that whole genome sequencing analysis has had in understanding the role of UPEC as a pathogen, as a complement to other studies.]]></p></abstract>
