Durante una infección, numerosas hormonas de origen adrenal interactúan con el sistema inmunológico como los glucocorticoides, mineralocorticoides y andrógenos. En particular, el cortisol y la dehidroepiandrosterona están vinculados con el equilibrio de la respuesta inmunológica durante la tuberculosis, y un desequilibrio en estas hormonas se ha asociado con la progresión de la enfermedad. A pesar de las investigaciones actuales, se dispone de un conocimiento limitado acerca de cómo las hormonas adrenales afectan la inmunidad innata y cómo esto podría influir en el desarrollo de la tuberculosis, o si la administración externa de estas hormonas ayudaría a mejorar el pronóstico de los pacientes con tuberculosis. Esta revisión analiza el estado actual de los conocimientos relacionados con este tema.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The connection between the immune system and the neuroendocrine system is facilitated by hormone receptors present on immune cells. In the context of infections, various adrenal hormones like glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids, and androgens interact with the immune system. Notably, cortisol and dehydroepiandrosterone play a role in regulating the immune response during tuberculosis. Imbalances in these hormones have been linked to the progression of the disease. Despite existing knowledge, there is a limited understanding of how adrenal hormones impact innate immunity, potentially influencing tuberculosis development. Furthermore, it remains unclear whether administering these hormones externally could enhance the prognosis for tuberculosis patients. This review assesses the current state of knowledge in this area.]]></p></abstract>
