En los últimos años, su estudio se ha incrementado en el contexto del cáncer, y uno de los hallazgos más importantes es que son parte del microambiente de los tumores. El interferón-gamma (IFN-&#947;) es uno de los miembros de la familia de los interferones y tiene funciones protumorales o antitumorales dependiendo del tipo de cáncer y del microambiente tumoral. En esta revisión se discuten los elementos de la vía de transducción de señales canónica del IFN-&#947; y sus implicaciones en el desarrollo de las neoplasias malignas. Los estudios sugieren que los elementos de la vía activada por el IFN-&#947; podrían ser útiles como biomarcadores y/o como blanco de terapias para el cáncer.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Interferons constitute a family of proteins involved in antiviral, immunomodulatory, and antiinflammatory activities. In the last years, the study of interferons in the cancer context has increased, and one of the most important findings is that interferons are part of the tumor microenvironment. The interferon-gamma (IFN-&#947;) is one of the members of the interferons family and has protumoral and antitumoral functions depending on the type of cancer and tumoral microenvironment. In this review, we discussed the elements of the canonical transduction pathway of IFN-&#947; and their implications for the study of malign neoplasms. Studies suggest that the elements of the pathway activated by IFN-&#947; could be useful as biomarkers and/or therapy targets against cancer.]]></p></abstract>
