<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S1405-888X2022000100105&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S1405-888X2022000100105&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S1405-888X2022000100105&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Las películas orales ultradelgadas son sistemas de administración novedosos que no requieren agua para ingerirlas, son de rápida liberación sistémica y permiten una dosificación cómoda y precisa, representan una opción para el suministro de metabolitos de plantas medicinales usadas para problemas de insomnio como Agastache mexicana. Sin embargo, la incorporación de moléculas complejas puede alterar la función de las películas. Por ello, el objetivo de esta investigación fue el análisis de la reacción fisicoquímica de las películas ultradelgadas de alginato de sodio y su actividad biológica al mezclarlas con los extractos etanólicos de A. mexicana. Se observó que después de integrar los extractos, las películas conservaron su morfología homogénea, grosor menor a 50 µm, y un tiempo de solubilidad por debajo de los 10 min., mientras que la dureza y la elasticidad se incrementaron más del 40% y 60% respectivamente. Mediante el uso de la espectroscopía infrarroja encontramos que los grupos funcionales de los extractos se conservan y no modifican la estructura química de las películas ultradelgadas. Adicionalmente, demostramos que las películas conservan el efecto hipnótico de Agastache mexicana, ya que los tiempos de latencia y de sueño en un modelo murino no sufrieron cambios significativos, lo que significa un potencial tratamiento de origen natural ante desórdenes del sueño como el insomnio.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Ultrathin oral films are novel delivery systems that do not require water to swallow, show rapid systemic release, and allow a comfortable and precise dosage. These films represent an option for administering active metabolites from medicinal plants used against insomnia, such as Agastache mexicana. However, incorporating complex bioactive molecules can compromise the functionality of the films. This study evaluated the physicochemical properties and biological activity of sodium alginate films added with the ethanolic extracts of Agastache Mexicana. After incorporating the extracts, the films preserved their homogeneous morphology, thickness (&lt;50 µm), and solubility time (&lt;10 min). In contrast, hardness increased more than 40%, and elasticity increased 60%. Infrared spectroscopy analysis revealed that, after the preparation of the films, the functional groups of the extracts and the chemical structure of the ultrathin films were maintained. Moreover, we demonstrated that the hypnotic effect of Agastache mexicana was preserved, since the sleep onset latency and total sleep time in a murine model were similar between the liquid extract and the film formulation. These data support the use of ultrathin films with natural extracts as a potential treatment for sleep disorders like insomnia.]]></p></abstract>
