Un análisis de las prácticas y significados desplegados al respecto permite identificar expresiones metafóricas sobre Internet. Estas metáforas indican concepciones que pueden limitar las prácticas o explorar posibilidades distintas. Por ello, el propósito de la investigación que presenta este artículo fue describir los significados y las metáforas que utilizan los estudiantes de bachillerato en torno a Internet. El estudio se basó en un enfoque teórico sociocultural y se realizó con una metodología cualitativa e interpretativa. Los resultados muestran que las metáforas que más utilizan los estudiantes sobre Internet son: un depósito de información o un medio de entretenimiento con compañeros, así como una herramienta de aprendizaje y de conexión a servicios y grupos virtuales. Las prácticas en que se incorpora Internet pueden generar significados nuevos en las comunidades.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Incorporating the Internet and computers into high schools has enabled diverse uses. An analysis of practices and meanings permits an identification of the metaphorical expressions regarding the Internet. These metaphors indicate perceptions that can limit practices or explore various possibilities. For this reason, the purpose of the research presented in this article was to describe the meanings and metaphors that high school students associate with the Internet. The study was based on a sociocultural theoretical focus and carried out with qualitative, interpretative methodology. The results show that the metaphors students use most for the Internet include its serving as a repository of information or a means of entertainment with classmates, as well as a learning tool, and a connection to services and virtual groups. Practices that incorporate the Internet can generate new meanings in communities.]]></p></abstract>
