Como su nombre indica, sus dos fases, aprendizaje y clasificación, se basan en la función de Heaviside. La efectividad del modelo propuesto puede verificarse mediante los resultados de un estudio comparativo en el que el clasificador se probó con otros siete modelos de reconocimiento de patrones en 20 conjuntos de datos. Los resultados experimentales indican que el modelo es competitivo en el estado de la técnica. Es de destacar que con un conjunto de datos, nuestro clasificador logró el 100% del rendimiento, validado con 10-fold cross validation, mientras que en su peor rendimiento logró un poco más del 50%. Los resultados obtenidos fueron validados por la prueba no paramétrica de Wilcoxon, que proporciona certeza estadística a los resultados de la comparación de rendimiento entre modelos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract In this paper, we discuss the theoretical foundations of a new classification model which is based on the associative approach of Pattern Recognition: Heaviside's Classifier. As its name suggests its both phases, learning and classification, are based on the Heaviside's function. The effectivity of the proposed model can be verified by the results of a comparative study where the classifier was tested against other seven pattern recognition models on 20 datasets. Experimental results indicate that the model is competitive in the state of the art. It is noteworthy that with one dataset, our classifier achieved the 100% of performance, validated with 10-fold cross-validation, while in its worst performance it achieved a little above of 50%. The obtained results were validated by the Wilcoxon non parametric test, which provides statistical certainty to the results of the performance comparison between models.]]></p></abstract>
