<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S1405-33222024000300010&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S1405-33222024000300010&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S1405-33222024000300010&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN En este trabajo se presentan y analizan nuevas determinaciones de paleointensidades absolutas obtenidas de flujos de lava independientes emplazados durante el Plioceno y distribuidos a lo largo del Rift Tepic-Zacoalco, al Oeste de la Faja Volcánica Transmexicana. Además, presenta una recopilación de estudios previos de paleointensidades realizados en México, abarcando edades de los últimos 5 millones de años. A partir de este análisis, se observa que el valor promedio del momento dipolar virtual obtenido para el último millón de años (10 × 1022 Am2), es superior al registrado en otras localidades en el mundo. Para el periodo de 3 a 5 millones de años, el valor promedio del momento dipolar es de 6 × 1022 Am2, lo que sugiere un aparente incremento gradual de la intensidad al menos a nivel regional durante el último millón de años. Se obtuvo una importante disminución de la intensidad para un flujo de lava presuntamente transicional. Estos resultados concuerdan con estudios paleomagnéticos previos realizados en las zonas aledañas, los cuales reportan registros de valores de paleointensidad notablemente bajos y asociados a un régimen geomagnético inestable.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT We report new absolute paleointensity determinations obtained from independent lava flows emplaced during the Pliocene and distributed along the Tepic-Zacoalco Rift (Western Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt). In addition, we carried out a compilation and analyses of previous paleointensity studies carried out in Mexico, covering age intervals of the last 5 million years. The average value of the virtual dipole moment obtained for the last million years (10 × 1022 Am2), is higher than that observed in other locations worldwide. On the other hand, for the periodfrom 3 to 5 million years, the average value of the dipole moment is 6 × 1022 Am2, which apparently suggests a gradual increase in intensity at least at regional scale, during the last million years. A significant decrease in intensity was detected for a presumably transitional lava flow. These results agree with previous studies carried out in the surrounding areas, reporting a notably low paleointensity value associated with a rather unstable geomagnetic regime.]]></p></abstract>
