El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar el tipo de herencia de caracteres relacionados con el vigor de la plántula de maíz y de la planta adulta, así como correlacionar el vigor inicial de plántula con los caracteres de la planta adulta. Con este fin se usaron los efectos de aptitud combinatoria general (ACG), aptitud combinatoria específica (ACE) y efectos recíprocos (ER) obtenidos de la evaluación de seis líneas endogámicas de maíz tropical y sus cruzas directas y recíprocas en un diseño dialélico. Los 30 híbridos resultantes se evaluaron en Tepalcingo, Morelos, e Iguala, Guerrero, en un diseño experimental de bloques completos al azar con tres repeticiones. Se evaluó el porcentaje de emergencia, vigor inicial, índice de vigor (I), altura de plántula, días de la siembra al 50% de las floraciones masculina y femenina, número de hojas debajo de la mazorca, número total de hojas y altura de planta. La variación atribuible a ACG, ACE y ER fue significativa (p&#8804;0.01) para todos los caracteres evaluados, aunque en menor grado para ACE y ER. La varianza de dominancia predominó en caracteres de plántula, y no en caracteres de planta adulta, donde la varianza aditiva fue mayor. Las líneas CML 254 y CML 411 (plántula) y la línea CML 399 (planta adulta) mostraron una alta ACG. Los efectos recíprocos mostraron que las líneas CML 254 y CML 396, como progenitores femeninos, produjeron híbridos con buen vigor inicial de plántula, y buen desarrollo de planta adulta. Las regresiones de ER del vigor inicial fueron significativas para los ER del porcentaje de emergencia (R2=0.53), índice de vigor I (R2=0.62), altura de plántula (R2=0.55), hojas debajo de la mazorca (R2=0.40) y número total de hojas (R2=0.26). No hubo asociación entre el vigor inicial y los caracteres de planta adulta.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract In plant breeding programs seed and seedling vigor are important to assure germination, emergence and initial development of the plant. This study was conducted to determine inheritance type of traits related to maize seedling and adult plant vigor and to correlate initial seedling vigor with adult plant traits. To this end, we used the effects of general combinatory aptitude (ACG), specific combinatory aptitude (ACE) and reciprocal effects (ER) obtained from the evaluation of six inbred lines of tropical maize and their direct and reciprocal crosses in a dialelic design. The 30 resulting hybrids were evaluated in Tepalcingo, Morelos, and Iguala, Guerrero, in a randomized complete block experimental design with three replications. We evaluated emergence percentage, initial vigor, vigor index (I), seedling height, days from sowing to 50% masculine and feminine flowering, number of leaves below the ear, total leaf number and plant height. The variation attributable to AGC, ACE and ER was significant (p&#8804;0.01) for all of the traits evaluated, although to a lesser degree for ACE and ER. The dominance variance predominated in seedling traits but not in adult plant traits, for which additive variance was greater. The lines CML 254 and CML 411 (seedling) and CML 399 (adult plant) exhibited high ACG. The reciprocal effects showed that the CML 254 and CML 396 lines, as female parents, produced hybrids with good initial seedling vigor and good development of the adult plant. ER regressions of initial vigor were significant for the ER emergence percentage (R2=0.53), vigor index I (R2=0.62) seedling height (R2=0.55), leaves below the ear (R2=0.40) and total leaf number (R2=0.26).
