Sarg., Tabebuia donnell-smithii Rose y Cordia elaeagnoides D.C. en Colima, se determinó su crecimiento estacional en diámetro, así como su relación con la ocurrencia de eventos fenológicos en los árboles y la temperatura y precipitación en esa región. En 37 árboles (10 B. simaruba, 13 T. donnell-smithii y 14 C. elaeagnoides) se instalaron bandas dendrométricas para tomar lecturas cada dos meses, durante 13 meses (agosto 2002-agosto 2003), junto con mediciones usando cinta diamétrica. Los resultados mostraron diferencias entre especies y fechas de medición (p&#8804;0.001) para el crecimiento en diámetro registrado con bandas, entre especies y categorías diamétricas (p&#8804;0.001), y entre fechas de medición (p&#8804;0.01) para el crecimiento registrado con cinta. Aunque las bandas fueron más precisas que la cinta se sugiere una frecuencia de medición mensual/bimensual en periodos de uno a tres años cuando se usen bandas, y una frecuencia semestral/ anual en periodos de tres años, y mayores cuando se utilice la cinta. T. donnell-smithii presentó el mayor crecimiento promedio anual con 0.72 (bandas) y 1.85 (cinta) cm año-1, seguida de B. simaruba con 0.25 (bandas) y 0.69 (cinta) cm año-1, y de C. elaeagnoides con 0.17 (bandas) y 0.56 (cinta) cm año-1. En C. elaeagnoides, el crecimiento registrado mediante cinta diamétrica tuvo correlaciones significativas con la temperatura (r=0.79, p&#8804;0.05) y precipitación (r=0.76, p&#8804;0.05), mientras que el obtenido con bandas dendrométricas tuvo una correlación significativa solamente con la temperatura (r=0.77, p&#8804;0.05).]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract To contribute to a better forest management of Bursera simaruba (L.) Sarg., Tabebuia donnell-smithii Rose and Cordia elaeagnoides D.C. in Colima, their seasonal diameter growth was determined, as well as its relationship with the occurrence of phenological events in the trees along with the temperature and precipitation of the region. Dendrometer bands were installed on 37 trees (10 B. simaruba, 13 T. donnell-smithii and 14 C. elaeagnoides), to be read every two months, during 13 months (August 2002-August 2003), along with measurements using diameter tape. The results showed differences among species and measurement dates (p&#8804;0.001) for the diameter growth registered with bands, as well as among species and diameter categories (p&#8804;0.001), and among measurement dates &#8804; (p&#8804;0.01) for the growth registered with tape. Although the bands &#8804; were more precise than the tape, a monthly/bimonthly measurement frequency is suggested in periods of one to three years when bands are used, and a semestral/annual frequency in periods of three years or more when tape is used. T. donnell-smithii presented the highest average annual growth with 0.72 (bands) and 1.85 (tape) cm year&#8722;1, followed by B. simaruba, with 0.25 (bands) and 0.69 (tape) cm year&#8722;1, and C. elaeagnoides with 0.17 (bands) and 0.56 (tape) cm year&#8722;1.
