Las dos especies presentan cierto parecido fenotípico, y quizá genotípico, pero pocas investigaciones se han realizado para estudiar la relación genética que pudiera existir entre ambas especies. Por lo anterior, y por lo importante que son ambas especies en el sur-sureste de la república Mexicana, el objetivo del presente trabajo fue analizar la diversidad genética entre ambas especies de cacao y pataxte del sur de México. Para ello, se colectaron 56 accesiones, que pertenecen a cinco grupos genéticos de cacao (Guayaquil, Criollo, Calabacillo, Patastillo y Guayaquil rojo) y uno de Pataxte. La purificación del ADN se realizó con el fin de amplificar cuatro marcadores microsatélite, dos de ellos (mTcCIR11 y mTcCIR12), reportados como informativos en estudios de diversidad genética en cacao. Con los análisis de diversidad, se estimó el número total de alelos por locus (Na), el número efectivo de alelos (Ne), la heterocigosidad observada (Ho) y esperada (He) y el coeficiente de endogamia (FIT). El rango alélico observado en mTcCIR11 fue de 121-313 pb y en MTcCIR12 fue de 190-232 pb. Para cada marcador se encontró un Na = 6.50, con un Ne para Guayaquil = 4.00, Criollo = 2.00, Calabacillo = 2.50, Patastillo = 3.00, Guayaquil rojo = 1.75 y Pataxte =3.00. La Ho fue inferior a la He, para todas las variedades de estudio. El AMOVA mostró una variación de 1% entre poblaciones, 85% entre los individuos y 14% entre individuos dentro de poblaciones.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Cacao (Theobroma cacao L.), along with pataxte (T. bicolor Humb. &amp; Bonpl), are two cultivated species of agricultural importance. Both grow together on plantations in the states of Tabasco and Chiapas in southern Mexico. The two species share some phenotypic and perhaps genotypic similarity, but little research has been conducted to study the genetic relationship that may exist between them. Therefore, and given the importance of both species in the south-southeast of Mexico, the objective of this study was to analyze the genetic diversity between both species of cacao and pataxte in southern Mexico. To this end, 56 accessions were collected, belonging to five genetic groups of cacao (Guayaquil, Criollo, Calabacillo, Patastillo, and Guayaquil Rojo) and one of Pataxte. DNA purification was performed to amplify four microsatellite markers, two of which (mTcCIR11 and mTcCIR12) have been reported to be informative in cacao genetic diversity studies. Diversity analyses were used to estimate the total number of alleles per locus (Na), the effective number of alleles (Ne), the observed (Ho) and expected (He) heterozygosity, and the inbreeding coefficient (FIT).
