Debido a la escasa información al respecto para la Sierra Sur de Oaxaca se realizó la investigación con el objetivo de determinar el contenido y reserva de carbono orgánico y nitrógeno en un Luvisol, bajo diferentes usos del suelo: pastizal, agrícola, plantación de pino, bosque de pino (control) y agropecuario, en la microcuenca Río La Venta, Copalita, Oaxaca, México. Se colectaron cuatro muestras compuestas por cada uso de suelo, a profundidades de 0-10 y 10-30 cm, respectivamente. Para determinar el contenido de materia orgánica del suelo (MOS), carbono orgánico del suelo (COS, % y Mg ha-1) se utilizó el método de Walkley/Black y para evaluar el nitrógeno total (Nt) fue mediante el método de Kjeldahl y se estimó la relación C:N. Se analizó el contenido de materia orgánica del suelo (MOS), carbono orgánico del suelo (COS, % y Mg ha-1) y nitrógeno total (Nt, % y Mg ha-1) y se estimó la relación C:N. Los resultados del contenido y reserva de COS y Nt para la profundidad de 0 a 10 cm fueron de 5.33-0.35% y 55.11-3.69 Mg ha-1 (agrícola), 6.39-0.44% y 50.59-3.50 Mg ha-1 (plantación de pino), 6.69-0.44% y 66.01-4.36 Mg ha-1 (agropecuario), 8.37-0.50% y 64.98-3.82 Mg ha-1 (pastizal), 9.11-0.54% y 56.91-3.39 Mg ha-1 (bosque de pino), respectivamente. Para la profundidad de 10-30 cm se observó que los valores disminuyeron. Los valores de relación C:N variaron de 14.21 a 17.1 en ambas profundidades. Los resultados mostraron una disminución en el COS y Nt del suelo, con respecto al uso original que es bosque de pino, por lo que es importante mantener la cobertura forestal, mediante prácticas de manejo como la silvicultura comunitaria, lo cual permitirá la conservación de los bosques y la disposición de materia orgánica en el suelo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract To the fertility of soil, information on its physical, chemical, and biological properties is required. However, the scarce information in this regard for the Sierra Sur de Oaxaca, the following research was carried out to evaluate the content and reserve of organic carbon and nitrogen in a Luvisol, in different land uses: pasture, agricultural, pine plantation, pine forest (control) and agricultural-livestock, in the Río La Venta micro-watershed, Copalita, Oaxaca, Mexico. Four composite samples were collected for each land use, at depths 0-10 and 10-30 cm respectively. To determine the soil organic matter (SOM), soil organic carbon (SOC, % and Mg ha-1) content, the Walkley/Black method was used, and to evaluate total nitrogen (TN), the Kjeldahl method was used, and the C:N ratio was estimated. The soil organic matter (SOM) content, soil organic carbon (SOC, % y Mg ha-1) and total nitrogen (Nt, % and Mg ha-1) were analyzed and the C:N ratio was estimated. The results of the content and reserve of SOC and Nt for the depth from 0 to 10 cm were 5.33-0.35% and 55.11-3.69 Mg ha-1 (agricultural), 6.39-0.44% and 50.59-3.50 Mg ha-1 (plantation of pine), 6.69-0.44% and 66.01-4.36 Mg ha-1 (agricultural-livestock), 8.37-0.50% and 64.98-3.82 Mg ha-1 (grassland), 9.11-0.54% and 56.91-3.39 Mg ha-1 (forest pine), respectively. For the depth of 10-30 cm the values decreased. The average C:N ratio values varied from 14.21 to 17.1 at both depths. The results showed a decrease in soil SOC and Nt compared to the original pine forest use. Therefore, it is important to maintain forest cover through management practices such as community forestry, which will allow for forest conservation and the disposition of organic matter into the soil.]]></p></abstract>
