En México se cultiva varias especies de Pitahaya en traspatios y parcelas, sin embargo, durante en el proceso de domesticación, se han perdido algunas características morfológicas que permiten diferenciar a las especies de gran importancia productiva en cultivos no tradicionales. El objetivo principal de este estudio fue caracterizar morfológicamente la raíz, tallo y flor de cuatro especies de pitahayas del género Hylocereus cultivadas en una parcela del municipio de Molcaxac, Puebla, mediante descriptores previamente definidos para apoyar a los agricultores seleccionar hacer un mejor uso de las características morfológicas del cultivo de pitahaya y de aquellos con que sean de mayor potencial productivo. Para la caracterización de la especie se clasificaron de acuerdo con la coloración de la pulpa de la fruta de 10 individuos por especie por tres repeticiones, y completamente al azar: pulpa roja (R); pulpa blanca (B); pulpa rosa Oaxaca (ROAX) y pulpa solferina (SP) de 10 plantas de cada cultivar. Posteriormente, se tomaron medidas de descriptores morfológicos, longitud de raíz primaria y secundaria, raíces adventicias, peso de raíces, longitud de flor, longitud y ancho de ovario, longitud y ancho del tubo receptacular, número y longitud de brácteas en ovario, número y longitud de brácteas de tubo receptacular, número/longitud y ancho de sépalos, número/longitud y ancho de petaloides, número/longitud y ancho de pétalos, número de lóbulos bífidos, hercogamía y número de estambres, asimismo se documentaron fotos. Este estudio permitió reconocer a la pitahaya R como Hylocereus ocamponis; a la B como Hylocereus undatus; pitahaya pulpa rosa ROAX como Hylocereus sp. y pitahaya pulpa púrpura SP como Hylocereus purpusii. Se encontró variabilidad entre las raíces primarias con mayor longitud en H. undatus (26.2cm) y H. purpursii (24.2cm) además de hercogamia (1.7cm) en H. sp. H. undatus (30.6 cm) y H. sp presentaron mayor longitud de tallos (32.4 cm). La flor de mayor longitud fue la especie H. undatus (33.3 cm), y H. ocamponis, fue la que presentó únicamente márgenes marcados de coloración verde y rojizo, principalmente en las brácteas, los sépalos, petaloides y tépalos externos. Esta caracterización morfológica permitió la identificación fenotípica de los individuos de Hylocereus cultivados en la parcela &#8220;Hermanos Solís&#8221; ubicada en el municipio de Molcaxac, estado de Puebla, México; con la finalidad de llevar a cabo un mejor manejo de producción y selección de las mimas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Pitahaya of the Hylocereus genus is of great economic importance due to its nutritional properties and antioxidant capacity. In Mexico, several species of pitahaya are cultivated in backyards and plots; however, during the domestication process, there continues to be a loss of visual morphological details that allow for the differentiation of species that are of significant productive importance. The main objective was to conduct a preliminary morphoagronomic analysis of the root, stem, and flower of four species of pitahayas from the Hylocereus genus cultivated in Molcaxac, Puebla, using defined descriptors. A completely randomized experimental design was employed. The selected individuals were classified according to the pulp coloration of the fruit for species characterization: red pulp (R), white pulp (B), Oaxaca pink pulp (ROAX), and purple pulp (SP). Subsequently, measurements of the defined agromorphological descriptors were taken, length of primary and secondary root, adventitious roots, weight of roots, length of flower, length and width of ovary, length and width of receptacular tube, number and length of bracts in ovary, number and length of bracts of receptacular tube, number/length and width of sepals, number/length and width of petaloids, number/length and width of petals, number of bifid lobes, herkogamy and number of stamens, Photos were also documented. The red pulp pitahaya was recognized as Hylocereus ocamponis; the white pulp as Hylocereus undatus; the Oaxaca pink pulp as Hylocereus sp.; and the purple pulp as Hylocereus purpusii. Variability was found among the primary roots, with greater length in Hylocereus undatus (26.2 cm) and Hylocereus purpusii (24.2 cm), and herkogamy (1.7 cm) was found in Hylocereus sp. The species Hylocereus undatus (30.6 cm) and Hylocereus sp. exhibited greater stem lengths (32.4 cm). The longest flower was from the species Hylocereus undatus (33.3 cm), while Hylocereus ocamponis presented only very pronounced green and reddish margin coloration, mainly in the bracts, sepals, petaloids, and outer tepals. This agromorphological characterization allowed for easy identification among the phenotypes of pitahaya cultivated in the &#8220;Hermanos Solís&#8221; plot located in the municipality of Molcaxac, Puebla, Mexico, with the purpose of carrying out better production management and selection of the same.]]></p></abstract>
