La zona cuenta con numerosas especies medicinales, las cuales son de gran importancia en la región para el tratamiento de diferentes enfermedades. En este estudio se identificaron las plantas actualmente utilizadas, se registraron los conocimientos tradicionales y se documentaron las enfermedades tratadas en la comunidad. A través de encuestas etnobotánicas realizadas con el método &#8220;bola de nieve&#8221; realizadas a 63 informantes locales, se registró un total de 50 plantas medicinales, pertenecientes a 27 familias botánicas. La familia Lamiaceae fue la que presentó el mayor número de especies descritas por los informantes (nueve especies), seguida de la familia Asteraceae (seis especies). Las especies más mencionadas fueron Matricaria chamomilla L. (17 RU), Mentha spicata L. (15 RU) y Eucalyptus globulus Labill. (9 RU). En general, todas las partes de las plantas se utilizaban para preparar remedios a base de hierbas. Las hojas (57.14%) se utilizan mayoritariamente para hacer remedios herbales, y se preparan principalmente en infusión (69.31%). Las enfermedades tratadas con plantas medicinales según el Índice de Consenso de Informantes fueron enfermedades de la piel (FCI=0.76; 4 spp.), del aparato respiratorio (FCI=0.7; 13 spp.), del sistema urinario (FCI=0.68; 6 spp.), digestivo-gastrointestinal (FCI=0.68; 25 spp.), y músculo-esquelético (FCI=0.65; 8 spp.). Este estudio indica que los habitantes de las comunidades de El Capulín, San Diego de las Trasquilas, San José Iturbide y La Venta en el municipio de San José Iturbide, Guanajuato, México, recurren al uso de plantas medicinales para tratar ciertas enfermedades específicas, la cual es una estrategia de salud pública que preserva los saberes tradicionales y culturales de los habitantes del municipio.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract A study of medicinal plants was carried out to collect information on their uses in four important communities in the municipality of San José Iturbide, Guanajuato, Mexico. The area has numerous medicinal species, which are of great importance in the region for the treatment of different diseases. In this study, the plants currently used were identified, traditional knowledge was recorded, and diseases treated in the community were documented. Through ethnobotanical surveys carried out with the "snowball" method conducted on 63 local informants, a total of 50 medicinal plants were registered, belonging to 27 botanical families. The Lamiaceae family was the one that the greatest number of species described by the informants (nine species), followed by Asteraceae family (six species). the most mentioned species were Matricaria chamomilla L. (17 UR), Mentha spicata L. (15 UR), and Eucalyptus globulus Labill. (9 UR). In general, all parts of the plants were used to prepare herbal remedies. The leaves (57.14%) are used mostly to make herbal remedies and prepared mainly by infusion (69.31%). The diseases treated with medicinal plants according to the Informant Consensus Index were diseases of the skin (FCI=0.76; 4 spp.), of the respiratory system (FCI=0.7; 13 spp.), urinary system (FCI=0.68; 6 spp.), digestive-gastrointestinal system (FCI=0.68; 25 spp.), and musculoskeletal (FCI=0.65; 8 spp.).
