El objetivo de la presente investigación fue documentar y generar información botánica, ecológica, etnobotánica, fitoquímica y de actividad biológica sobre Chrysactinia mexicana, la cual sirva de base para su posterior cultivo, aprovechamiento y conservación. Se llevó a cabo una revisión exhaustiva de recursos bibliográficos científicos obtenidos de buscadores académicos especializados en internet. Tanto el mapa, como la identificación de los factores bióticos y abióticos asociados a la distribución de la especie, se generaron usando Sistemas de Información Geográfica (SIG). La información de su fenología, estrategias de propagación y características de hábitat se recopiló en salidas de campo llevadas a cabo una vez al mes a través de un año. Chrysactinia mexicana presenta una amplia variedad de nombres comunes, lo cual pone de manifiesto el estrecho vínculo entre la especie y los habitantes de las regiones en las que se distribuye. Se registra el uso de sus hojas, tallos y flores para curar infecciones respiratorias, infecciones de la piel, dolores de estómago, diarrea, fiebre y reumatismo. Se distribuye en las provincias biogeográficas del Desierto Chihuahuense, Sierra Madre Oriental y Faja Volcánica Transmexicana. Su amplia distribución indica que se trata de una especie con baja especificidad de hábitat. Se propaga de manera sexual a través de aquenios, dispersados por el viento, mientras que la propagación asexual es por medio estolones subterráneos. Presenta una amplia diversidad de metabolitos secundarios, destacando la piperitona, eucaliptol, acetato de linalilo, &#945;-terpineol, silvestreno y terpineol. Los diferentes bioproductos muestran actividad positiva contra bacterias, micobacterias, hongos y amibas. También se observó que el aceite esencial presenta acción insecticida y nematicida. Estudios más recientes han mostrado resultados positivos de algunos de sus componentes como antidepresivos y estimulantes del comportamiento sexual. Chrysactinia mexicana presenta un alto potencial en la industria farmacéutica, cosmética, de alimentos y en el control de plagas, por lo que es necesario iniciar con estudios que permitan su propagación y establecimiento en cultivo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract One of the strategies to recognize the potential future use of aromatic and medicinal plants (AMPs) is to take into account the past uses and traditional knowledge. The general objective of this research is to document and generate information on Chrysactinia mexicana, which serves as a basis for its subsequent cultivation, use, and conservation. An exhaustive review of scientific bibliographic resources obtained from specialized academic search on the Internet was carried out. Both, the distribution map and the identification of the biotic and abiotic factors associated with the distribution of the species were generated using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Information about the phenology, propagation strategies and habitat characteristics were collected in the field once a month, for a year. Chrysactinia mexicana has a wide variety of common names which highlight the close link between the species and the inhabitants of the regions in which it originates. The use of its leaves, stems, and flowers has been noted to cure respiratory infections, skin infections, stomach pains, diarrhoea, fever, and rheumatism. It is distributed in the biogeographical provinces of the Chihuahuan Desert, Sierra Madre Oriental, and Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt. Its wide distribution indicates that it is a species with low habitat specificity. It spreads sexually through wind-dispersed achenes, while asexual propagation is via subterranean stolons. Presents a wide variety of secondary metabolites, the most notable are piperitone, eucalyptol, linalyl acetate, &#945;-terpineol, Sylvain and terpineol. The different bioproducts show positive results combatting bacteria, mycobacteria, fungi, and amoebae. It was also observed that the essential oil has insecticidal and nematicidal actions. More recent studies have shown positive results when used as an antidepressant and as a sexual behavior stimulant. Chrysactinia mexicana could have many potential uses in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food, and pest control industries, so it is important to start with studies that allow its propagation and establishment in cultivation.]]></p></abstract>
