Durante el trabajo dirigido a realizar el inventario de la flora de los márgenes de los ríos que se originan en las faldas orientales del volcán Cofre de Perote, en la región central del estado de Veracruz, se registraron ejemplares del género Salvia (Lamiaceae), diferentes a las especies ya conocidas para Veracruz. Al identificar los ejemplares colectados se llegó a la conclusión de que pertenecen a Salvia divinorum, una especie previamente conocida como endémica a Oaxaca, donde tiene importancia ceremonial para los mazatecos. La especie está representada por una población, en el sotobosque del bosque mesófilo de montaña, en el margen del río, a una altitud de 1500 m s.n.m., asociada con Carpinus caroliniana, Clethra mexicana, Liquidambar styraciflua, Meliosma alba y Quercus germana. La población se encuentra aparentemente saludable, y no presenta indicios de uso o manejo; sin embargo, es necesario hacer más investigación a lo largo del río para determinar si existen más localidades donde se encuentre la especie.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract In this study, Salvia divinorum is described and illustrated as a new record for the state of Veracruz. During the work aimed at carrying out the inventory of the flora from the margins of the rivers that originate in the eastern hillsides of the Cofre de Perote, in the central region of the state of Veracruz, specimens of Salvia (Lamiaceae) that were different from the known species of the state, were registered. When these collected specimens were identified, it was concluded that they belonged to Salvia divinorum, a species previously known as endemic to Oaxaca, where it has ceremonial importance for the Mazatec. The species is represented by a population in the understory of the cloud forest, along the river margins, at 1500 m of elevation, associated with Carpinus caroliniana, Clethra mexicana, Liquidambar styraciflua, Meliosma alba, and Quercus germana. The population is apparently healthy, and it does not show signs of use or management. However, it is necessary to perform more research along the river margins to determine if there are more localities where this species can be found.]]></p></abstract>
