(Piperaceae) es una especie ampliamente utilizada en la medicina tradicional peruana. Ante la escasez de información anatómica de especímenes de P. aduncum que crecen en la selva peruana, establecemos como objetivos la caracterización anatómica e histoquímica de los órganos vegetativos y el estudio fitoquímico preliminar del extracto etanólico de las hojas, para la obtención de caracteres diagnósticos de dicha especie. Se realizaron cortes a mano alzada, tinción histológica y reacciones histoquímicas de raíces, tallos y hojas, macerados del tallo y diafanizados foliares. Con el extracto etanólico de las hojas se realizaron procedimientos fitoquímicos para el reconocimiento de metabolitos secundarios. Los resultados han verificado caracteres histológicos ya reportados para la especie como el tallo primario con una doble hilera de haces vasculares, así como la hoja bifacial hipoestomática con idioblastos secretores, los rafidios de oxalato cálcico, tricomas tectores y glandulares. Se han caracterizado los rasgos histológicos distintivos para P. aduncum como los almidones poliédricos simples e idioblastos secretores en las raíces; vasos de xilema escaleriformes, punteados y elementos esclerenquimáticos en el tallo, así como el número de estomas, los índices estomático y del parénquima en empalizada para la hoja. Las pruebas fitoquímicas evidencian la presencia de alcaloides, flavonoides, compuestos fenólicos y saponinas en el extracto etanólico, mientras que con las pruebas histoquímicas se reconocieron alcaloides para las raíces, esteroles y triterpenos para los tallos, esteroles y taninos para las hojas. Se concluye que los datos morfométricos a nivel foliar y caulinar son los más relevantes y de importancia diagnóstica y pueden ser utilizados en la identificación de la especie.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Piper aduncum L. (Piperaceae) is a species widely used in traditional Peruvian medicine. Due to lack the of anatomical information on specimens of P. aduncum that grow in the Peruvian Amazon, we set as objetives the anatomical and histochemical characterization of the vegetative organs and the preliminary phytochemical study of the ethanolic extract of the leaves, to obtain diagnostic characters of the mentioned species. Freehand sections, histological staining and histochemical reactions of roots, stems and leaves, stem macerations and leaf clearing were performed. Phytochemical procedures were carried out for the recognition of secondary metabolites with the ethanolic extract of the leaves. The results have verified histological characters already reported for the species such as the primary stem with a double row of vascular bundles as well as the hypostomatic bifacial leaf with secretory idioblasts, calcium oxalate raphides, tector and glandular trichomes. Distinctive histological features for P. aduncum such as simple polyhedral starches and secretory idioblasts in the roots, xylem vessels scalariform and pitted, sclerenchyma elements in the stem as well as the number of stomata, stomatal index and palisade parenchyma index for the leaf have been characterized. Phytochemical tests show the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolic compounds and saponins in the ethanolic extract, while histochemical tests showed alkaloids for the roots, sterols and triterpenes for the stems, sterols and tannins for the leaves. It is concluded that the morphometric data at the foliar and stem level are the most relevant and of diagnostic importance and can be used in the identificaction of the species.]]></p></abstract>
