El objetivo del presente trabajo fue evaluar los efectos del fuego sobre características físicas, químicas y nutricionales del suelo en tierras de vocación forestal en Jipijapa, Manabí, Ecuador. Para el desarrollo de la investigación se utilizó un diseño no experimental. Se delimitaron diez parcelas en combustibles apilados en hileras y tres en combustibles dispersos. En los análisis se consideraron variables meteorológicas, del material combustible y del comportamiento del fuego, así como algunas características físicas, químicas y nutricionales del suelo antes y después de la quema. Las diferencias de los valores medios de las variables del material combustible y de los parámetros del comportamiento del fuego fueron estadísticamente significativas, siendo mayores en las parcelas ubicadas en combustibles apilados. En ambos tipos de parcelas, tres meses después de la quema, los valores medios de las características del suelo, si bien fueron inferiores y diferentes estadísticamente a los que existían antes de aplicar el fuego, alcanzaron niveles numéricamente similares a los mismos, siendo algunos de ellos superiores para el caso de los combustibles dispersos. El estudio brinda una información que, aunque limitada por el poco tiempo transcurrido para hacer las mediciones después de la quema, puede ser utilizada para la toma de decisiones en el contexto de la regulación del uso del fuego en tierras de vocación forestal.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Fire use is a common practice in agriculture, so it is important to understand its effects on soil properties for better soil management. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of fire on the physical, chemical, and nutritional characteristics of the soil on forest vocation lands in Jipijapa, Manabí, Ecuador. A non-experimental design was used to develop the research. Ten plots were delimited in fuels stacked in rows and three in dispersed fuels. The analyses considered meteorological variables, fuel material, and fire behavior, as well as some physical, chemical and nutritional characteristics of the soil before and after burning. The differences in the mean values of the fuel material variables and fire behavior parameters were statistically significant, being greater in the plots located in stacked fuels. In both types of plots, three months after burning, the mean values of soil characteristics, although lower and statistically different from those before the fire was applied, reached levels numerically similar, some higher in the case of dispersed fuels. The study provides information that, although limited by the short time used to make the measurements after burning, can be used for decision-making in the context of regulating the use of fire on forest vocation lands.]]></p></abstract>
