En áreas de bosque tropical seco (BTS) donde se elimina la vegetación para establecer actividades agrícolas, la resistencia de la vegetación a este disturbio antrópico se vuelve irrelevante. Sin embargo, una vez que se abandonan los campos agrícolas, los sitios inician un proceso de recuperación de sus atributos ecológicos. El objetivo de este trabajo es proponer un marco metodológico para la evaluación de la resiliencia ecológica de los BTS mediante la combinación secuencial de la percepción remota y muestreos en campo, considerando el marco conceptual de la resiliencia y la ecología del BTS. Se plantea que la evaluación de la resiliencia ecológica del BTS tenga las siguientes aproximaciones: (1) un análisis de la recuperación de los atributos del BTS (e. g., cobertura, altura) a escala regional y de paisaje mediante insumos de percepción remota (e. g., imágenes de satelite) que muestren el cambio de cobertura y uso del suelo; (2) evaluar la recuperación desde una perspectiva a escala local que implique el análisis de las variables ecológicas más relevantes como la estructura, la diversidad y la función ecológica de la vegetación; y (3) a partir de los insumos a escala local, retornar a niveles de trabajo menos detallados (e. g., regional y paisaje) y modelar los datos obtenidos en campo mediante índices de vegetación. Este planteamiento permitiría evaluar la resiliencia ecológica de un ecosistema y las causas que la promueven a diferentes escalas espaciales.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Ecological resilience includes two components: resistance and recovery. In areas of tropical dry forest (TDF) where the vegetation is removed to establish croplands, the resistance of the vegetation to this anthropic disturbance becomes irrelevant. However, once croplands are abandoned, the sites start a process of recovery of their ecological attributes. The aim of this work is to present a methodological framework for the assessment of the ecological resilience of the TDF through a sequential combination of remote sensing and field surveys, considering the conceptual framework of resilience and the ecology of the TDF. The assessment of the ecological resilience of the TDF is proposed to include the following approaches: (1) an analysis of the recovery of the TDF attributes (e. g., coverage, height) at the regional and landscape levels through remote sensing (e. g., satellite images) that show land-use and land cover change; (2) assess recovery from a local perspective through the analysis of the most relevant ecological variables such as structure, diversity, and ecological function of vegetation, and (3) from the inputs at the local level, to return to the less detailed levels of work (e. g., regional and landscape) and to model the data obtained in the field through vegetation indices. This approach would allow assessing the ecological resilience of an ecosystem and the causes that promote it at different spatial scales.]]></p></abstract>
