In this context, molecular markers improve the efficiency of the selection process. This study aimed to validate the efficacy of molecular markers in identifying genes resistant to six pathogens: Meloidogyne sp. (Mi-1 and Mi-1.2), Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici (I-1 and I-2), Stemphyllium sp. (Sm), Phytophthora infestans (Ph3), tomato yellow leaf curl virus (Ty-2 and Ty-3) and spotted wilt virus (Sw5b). Protocols for 10 pairs of markers associated with resistance genes were adapted and tested on 20 genotypes. Pathogen resistance genes were identified in 17 advanced lines and three commercial hybrids of tomato. Molecular markers distinguished lines with resistance genes to six important diseases in tomato cultivation, which could therefore be used for the development of new varieties.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen El tomate se enfrenta a más de 100 patógenos que afectan su producción; por ello, es crucial que las variedades comerciales integren genes de resistencia. En este contexto, los marcadores moleculares mejoran la eficiencia del proceso de selección. El objetivo de este estudio fue validar la eficacia de marcadores moleculares para identificar genes de resistencia de seis patógenos: Meloidogyne sp. (Mi-1 y Mi-1.2), Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici (I-1 y I-2), Stemphyllium sp. (Sm), Phytophthora infestans (Ph3), virus del rizado amarillo del tomate (Ty-2 y Ty-3) y virus de la marchitez manchada (Sw5b). Se adaptaron los protocolos de 10 pares de marcadores asociados a los genes de resistencia y se probaron en 20 genotipos. Se identificaron genes de resistencia a patógenos en 17 líneas avanzadas y tres híbridos comerciales de tomate. Los marcadores moleculares distinguieron líneas con genes de resistencia a seis enfermedades importantes en el cultivo de tomate, por lo cual se podrían utilizar para el desarrollo de nuevas variedades.]]></p></abstract>
