<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S1026-87742023000200152&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S1026-87742023000200152&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S1026-87742023000200152&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN El complejo volcánico de Ahualulco (CVA), en la región meridional de la Mesa Central de México, consta de un conjunto de rocas volcánicas cenozoicas que incluye andesitas emplazadas en el Eoceno medio, seguidas de lavas dacíticas y riolíticas, al igual que secuencias piroclásticas félsicas emitidas durante el Oligoceno, algunas de las cuales contienen granate. En este trabajo se ha encontrado que, al menos, un segundo evento andesítico (andesita Petronilas) ocurrió en ese lapso, y que estuvo ligado a la génesis de la ignimbrita Cortes (de composición riolítica), conformando así un volcanismo bimodal &#8220;atípico&#8221; evidenciado por las relaciones de campo, mineralogía, correlación de los elementos incompatibles Th y Nb y los patrones de las tierras raras. Adicionalmente, se obtuvieron nuevas edades de cristalización de zircón por el método U-Pb para la Riodacita Zapatero (31.7 Ma), la Riolita Los Cuervos (30.8 Ma), la riolita granatífera El Arenal (31.4 Ma) y el pórfido riolítico El Negro (31.1 Ma). Posiblemente, el emplazamiento de la suite bimodal, así como el de las rocas encontradas en el norte, es de tipo fisural asociado a las fallas NW-SE originadas en el régimen extensivo que ocurrió entre el Oligoceno y el Mioceno. Sin embargo, en el centro del CVA se requiere de una historia eruptiva similar a la de las calderas de colapso para explicar ciertos hallazgos litológicos y estratigráficos, como la presencia de grandes brechas, con abundantes clastos graníticos y de rocas sedimentarias basales del Cretácico, en las tobas Palos Colorados y Hienera.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT The Ahualulco Volcanic Complex (AVC), in the southern region of the Mesa Central of Mexico, consists of a set of Cenozoic volcanic rocks, which includes andesites. The AVC was emplaced in the middle Eocene, followed by dacitic-rhyolitic lavas, as well as felsic pyroclastic sequences emitted during the Oligocene, some of which contain garnet. This work emphasizes, at least, a second Oligocene andesitic event (Petronilas andesite) that was linked to the genesis of the Cortes ignimbrite, thus forming a bimodal volcanism evidenced by field relations, mineralogy, the correlation of incompatible elements such as Th and Nb and rare earth elements patterns. In addition, new U-Pb crystallization ages were obtained for the Zapatero Rhyodacite (31.7 Ma), the Los Cuervos Rhyolite (30.8 Ma), the garnet-bearing rhyolite El Arenal (31.4 Ma) and the El Negro rhyolitic porphyry (31.1 Ma). Possibly, the emplacement of the bimodal suite, like that of the rocks found to the north, was fissure fed, associated with NW-SE faults originated in the extensional regime between the Oligocene and the Miocene. However, in the central area of the AVC, explosive or caldera-related volcanism might be required to explain certain lithological and stratigraphic features, such as large lithic breccias with abundant granitic clasts and Mesozoic sedimentary basement lithics, in the Palos Colorados and Hienera tuffs.]]></p></abstract>
