<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S1026-87742022000300262&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S1026-87742022000300262&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S1026-87742022000300262&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN Presentamos los resultados de un estudio estratigráfico de una sucesión volcano-sedimentaria del Plioceno superior-Pleistoceno inferior expuesta alrededor y en la zona de las calderas La Reforma y El Aguajito, al norte de Santa Rosalía, en Baja California Sur, México. Esta sucesión forma parte del sustrato de las calderas y se relacionan con las formaciones sedimentarias descritas en la cuenca de Santa Rosalía. La sucesión tiene nueve unidades litológicas, con rocas volcánicas efusivas y explosivas de ambiente subacuoso-subaéreo y rocas siliciclásticas fosilíferas y carbonatadas. Estas unidades fueron agrupadas en dos sucesiones estratigráficas, con base en estudios anteriores, relaciones estratigráficas, tres nuevas edades obtenidas en circones, edades paleontológicas relativas y correlación regional. En orden estratigráfico, estas sucesiones con sus respectivas unidades son: (1) Formación Infierno, consiste en una sucesión de rocas volcano-sedimentarias con una edad de 2.5 Ma cerca de su base y 1.8 Ma en su cima. Se caracteriza por presentar cuatro capas volcánicas interestratificadas con sedimentos fosilíferos y dos capas sedimentarias las cuales se pueden agrupar en las siguientes unidades: ignimbrita Mesa de Enmedio (depósito de bloque de pómez gigante, Plioceno superior), arenisca fosilífera El Yaqui (Pleistoceno inferior), ignimbrita Cueva Amarilla (2.4 Ma), ignimbrita El Carrizo (1.89 Ma), arenisca fosilífera Cueva de Los Fósiles y lava El Azufre (1.8 Ma). (2) Sucesión volcano-sedimentaria Pre-Reforma, yace discordante sobre la Formación Infierno, con evidencias de depositación subacuosa y compuesta por las unidades: volcano-sedimentaria El Contrabando (1.43 Ma), lava Punta Candeleros (1.36 Ma) y en la cima la unidad volcano-sedimentaria La Zorra (1.35 Ma). En la zona estudiada las unidades sedimentarias pertenecientes a la Formación Infierno se caracterizan por contener abundantes fósiles, siendo los más comunes bivalvos de la familia Pectinidae. Con base en el contenido fósil se puede concluir que el ambiente de depósito de la formación Infierno fue de aguas tropicales-subtropicales, que variaron desde zonas intermareales y bahías protegidas, a zonas de plataforma interna con menos de 100 m de profundidad.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT We present the results of a stratigraphic study of an upper Pliocene to lower Pleistocene volcano-sedimentary succession exposed in and around the La Reforma and El Aguajito calderas, north of Santa Rosalia, Baja California Sur, Mexico. This succession is part of the pre-calderas substrate and is related to the sedimentary formations described in the Santa Rosalia basin. The succession has nine lithological units that includes effusive and pyroclastic deposits accumulated in subaqueous and subaerial settings, that include fossiliferous siliciclastic and carbonate rocks. These units were defined Based on previous studies, our stratigraphic descriptions, a regional correlation and we defined recognized these units were grouped into two stratigraphic successions that are: (1) The Infierno Formation dated 2.5 Ma near its base and 1.8 Ma atop. It is a volcano-sedimentary succession more complex than previously described that includes: Mesa de Enmedio ignimbrite (giant pumice block deposit), El Yaqui fossiliferous sandstone (lower Pleistocene), Cueva Amarilla ignimbrite (2.4 Ma), El Carrizo ignimbrite (1.89 Ma), El Azufre lava (1.8 Ma) and the Cueva de Los Fósiles fossiliferous sandstone. (2) The Pre-Reforma volcano-sedimentary succession that, rests unconformably over the Infierno Formation and consists of three units: El Contrabando volcano-sedimentary (1.43 Ma), Punta Candeleros lava (1.36 Ma) and the La Zorra volcano-sedimentary unit (1.35 Ma). The sedimentary units of the Infierno Formation contain abundant fossils with predominance of Pectinid bivalves of the Pectinidae family. The fossil record suggests that The Infierno Formation emplaced in tropical-subtropical waters, which varied from intertidal zones and sheltered bays, to inner shelf zones with less than 100 m depth.]]></p></abstract>
