Distintas tipologías de movimientos en masa fueron documentadas a partir de trabajo de campo, análisis e interpretación de imágenes satelitales así como escenas del acervo histórico de la plataforma Google Earth. La información recabada para los últimos 30 años identifica 429 eventos, destacando caídos, deslizamientos y flujos como las principales tipologías de movimientos en masa en la región, principalmente condicionados al patrón geológico-estructural. La mayoría de los eventos registrados han sido detonados por precipitaciones extremas relacionadas con huracanes y tormentas tropicales. Sin embargo, el marcado incremento de sismicidad en el noreste de México permite proponer a esta actividad como un segundo agente detonante de la inestabilidad de laderas regionalmente. El inventario generado sirve como base para la evaluación del riesgo por movimientos en masa en la región. Así mismo, la metodología empleada puede ser extrapolada a zonas vecinas donde la problemática de inestabilidades de ladera es recurrente pero carente de estudios científicos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT: We present a landslide inventory for the Santa Rosa Canyon in the Monterrey Salient, between Linares and Iturbide in Nuevo León state. A total of 429 landslides were documented from field investigation, analysis and interpretation of satellite imagery and historical data from Google Earth platform for the last 30 years. Falls, slides and flows are the most typical landslides, mainly related to extraordinary rainfalls from hurricanes and tropical storms. Moreover, an overall increase in seismicity in northeastern Mexico may indicate this activity as the second most important factor triggering slope instabilities. This inventory could be used in detailed landslide risk assessment studies in the region, and the methodology may be extrapolated to neighboring areas with recurrent landslides and a lack of scientific studies.]]></p></abstract>
