<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S1026-87742015000200273&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S1026-87742015000200273&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S1026-87742015000200273&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN Se infirió la dieta de tres ejemplares de caballo (Equus conversidens), cinco gonfoterios (Cuvieronius hyodon), un bisonte (Bison sp.), un mamut (Mammuthus columbi), un perezoso gigante (Eremotherium laurillardi) y un león americano (Panthera atrox), usando las relaciones isotópicas de carbono y oxígeno en muestras de dientes provenientes de estos fósiles. Éstos se encontraron en sedimentos fluviales y lacustres de edad rancholabreana en tres localidades de la Depresión Central de Chiapas, sureste de México. Así mismo, se infirieron las condiciones ambientales de la región a finales del Pleistoceno. Los análisis revelan que los caballos, el mamut y el bisonte consumían plantas C4 (&#948;13C: -1.8&#8240; a -1.0&#8240;); el perezoso terrestre tenía una dieta mixta C3/C4 (&#948;13C: -7.7&#8240;) y la mayoría de los gonfoterios se alimentaban de plantas C3 (&#948;13C: -9.4&#8240; a 11.4&#8240;), mientras que el león americano depredaba a los herbívoros C4 (&#948;13C: -5.5&#8240;). Esto indica que en esta zona se desarrolló un pastizal con algunos árboles y las condiciones climáticas fueron más áridas que en la actualidad para permitir este tipo de vegetación.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT We inferred the diet of Equus conversidens (three specimens), Cuvieronius hyodon (five specimens), Bison sp., Eremotherium laurillardi, Mammuthus columbi and Panthera atrox (one specimen each) from Rancholabrean fluvio- lacustrine deposits in the Central Depression of Chiapas, using their carbon and oxygen isotopic composition. The environmental conditions prevailing during the Late Pleistocene in the region were also inferred. Our analysis shows that E. conversidens, Bison sp., and M. columbi fed on C4 plants (&#948;13C: -1.8&#8240; to -1.0&#8240;), E. laurillardi was a mixer feeder C3/C4 (&#948;13C: - 7.7&#8240;); on the other hand C. hyodon was a largely a C3 plants feeder (&#948;13C: -9.4&#8240; to 11.4&#8240;), whereas P. atrox preyed upon C4 herbivores (&#948;13C: -5.5&#8240;). Our analysis also discloses more arid climate than at present, as well as the presence of grasslands associated to trees.]]></p></abstract>
