As&iacute; mismo, este trabajo aporta nuevos datos a la sinonimia y distribuci&oacute;n geogr&aacute;fica de las especies registradas y sus afinidades con faunas de las provincias Gatuniana y Caloosahatchiana</font>.</p>     <p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><a name="f1"></a></font></p>     <p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><img src="/img/revistas/rmcg/v28n3/a5f1.jpg"></font></p>     <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">Numerosos trabajos previos dedicados a la descripci&oacute;n de moluscos para esta regi&oacute;n se mencionan en el trabajo de Perrilliat (1972), de manera que aqu&iacute; se omiten para evitar la repetici&oacute;n. Posteriormente se publicaron otros trabajos sobre la fauna de Santa Rosa, Veracruz (Perrilliat, 1973, 1974a, 1974b, 1976, 1977, 1984).</font></p>     <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">La fauna estudiada se recolect&oacute; en las siguientes localidades: IGM 3679 El Tepache, IGM 3680 Nuevo Teapa e IGM 3681 Coatzacoalcos (ver Ap&eacute;ndice).</font></p>     <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">La fauna est&aacute; representada por 58 g&eacute;neros de gaster&oacute;podos de las familias Trochidae, Turbinidae, Cerithiidae, Turritellidae, Rissoidae, Rissoinidae, Vitrinellidae, Caecidae, Vermetidae, Triviidae, Cypraeidae, Naticidae, Cassidae, Cymatiidae, Cerithiopsidae, Modulidae, Triphoridae, Epitoniidae, Eulimidae, Muricidae, Magilidae, Buccinidae, Nassaridae, Columbellidae, Olividae, Marginellidae, Mitridae, Turridae, Conidae, Terebridae, Architectonicidae, Pyramidellidae, Scaphandridae, Atyidae y Retusidae; dos g&eacute;neros de escaf&oacute;podos de las familias Dentaliidae y Siphonodentaliidae y 15 g&eacute;neros de bivalvos de las familias Nuculidae, Arcidae, Mytilidae, Chamidae, Crassatellidae, Cardiidae, Tellinidae, Vesycomidae, Veneridae, Corbulidae, Verticordiidae y Ostreidae.</font></p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">Los moluscos registrados pertenecen a la Subprovincia Agueguexquitiana de la Provincia Gatuniana del Plioceno, integrada por un gran n&uacute;mero de g&eacute;neros y especies que se consideran indicadores cl&aacute;sicos gatunianos como: <i>Turritella guppyi, Anachis (Costoanachis) mira mira, Crassispira</i> cf. C. <i>maonisriparum, Kurtziella (Kurtziella) stenotella, Nannodiella rintriada, Arcinella arcinella, Americardia media, Lirophora mactropsis</i> y <i>Gouldia insularis,</i> aun cuando tambi&eacute;n se presentan elementos caloosahatchianos como: <i>Schwartziella catesbyana, Rissoina (Phosinella) sagraiana, Cyclostremiscus bartschi, Caecum cycloferum, Caecum (Caecum) regulare, Niveria suffusa, Cerithiopsis vinca, Triphora hemphilli, Kurtziella (Cryoturris) serta, Carinodrillia</i> cf. <i>C. pylonia</i> y <i>Architectonica (Pseudotorinia)</i> cf. <i>A. (P.) nupera.</i></font></p>     <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">La malacofauna del Plioceno de esta regi&oacute;n es de tipo tropical con una amplia diversidad y distribuci&oacute;n.</font></p>     <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">De toda la fauna estudiada se describen solo 20 especies (16 gaster&oacute;podos, cuatro bivalvos) que no hab&iacute;an sido reportados para la Formaci&oacute;n Agueguexquite y el resto de las especies determinadas se listan en la <a href="/img/revistas/rmcg/v28n3/a5t1.jpg" target="_blank">Tabla 1</a>.</font></p>     <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">El material estudiado est&aacute; depositado en la Colecci&oacute;n Nacional de Paleontolog&iacute;a, Museo Ma. Carmen Perrilliat M., del Instituto de Geolog&iacute;a de la Universidad Nacional Aut&oacute;noma de M&eacute;xico con el acr&oacute;nimo IGM. La sutura es impresa. No se conserv&oacute; la protoconcha, ni la abertura. Se conservaron cinco vueltas de la teleoconcha que presentan una escultura de dos cordones espirales gruesos con nudos e hilos espirales d&eacute;biles; un hilo espiral d&eacute;bil entre la sutura y el cord&oacute;n espiral. Entre los dos cordones espirales se presentan tres hilos espirales d&eacute;biles, en la parte anterior de la vuelta se presentan tres hilos espirales m&aacute;s d&eacute;biles. La ornamentaci&oacute;n consiste en costillas axiales, lisas, angostas, elevadas, algo oblicuas y se contin&uacute;an de una vuelta a la otra, son 12 en las primeras vueltas y 15 en la &uacute;ltima vuelta; los espacios son m&aacute;s anchos que las costillas y lisos. La abertura es semiovalada bordeada de un callo continuo. <body><![CDATA[<p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">&nbsp;</font></p>     <p align="justify"><font size="2" face="verdana"><b>ABUNDANCIA DE ESPECIES</b></font></p>     <p align="justify"><font size="2" face="verdana">Se reportan 1099 ejemplares de las tres localidades (El Tepache, Coatzacoalcos y Nuevo Teapa) de los cuales 814 son gaster&oacute;podos, 31 escaf&oacute;podos y 254 bivalvos. Las familias mejor representadas de los gaster&oacute;podos son: Cerithiidae, Eulimidae, Nassariidae, Marginellidae, Turridae, Pyramidellidae, y de los bivalvos: Veneridae y Corbulidae (<a href="/img/revistas/rmcg/v28n3/a5t2.jpg" target="_blank">Tabla 2</a>).</font></p>     <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">&nbsp;</font></p>     <p align="justify"><font size="2" face="verdana"><b>DISCUSI&Oacute;N</b></font></p>     <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">Se conoce que algunos gaster&oacute;podos marinos son muy adaptables a las condiciones ambientales fluctuantes dentro de su rango ecol&oacute;gico, como intervalos de salinidad o temperatura, lo cual les permite cierta flexibilidad para habitar otras regiones, por ejemplo, <i>Niveria suffusa</i> reportada por primera vez en este trabajo para la regi&oacute;n de Coatzacoalcos, ha sido reportada en el sur de Florida. Algunas especies, en cambio, est&aacute;n restringidas a intervalos estrechos de condiciones ambientales, que pueden ser definidas en t&eacute;rminos de temperatura, salinidad, profundidad o de factores bi&oacute;ticos: especies como <i>Caecum regulare, Schwartziella catesbyana</i> y <i>Cerithiopsis vinca</i> que existen hasta el Reciente, son buenos indicadores de aguas profundas y que habitan entre los 0 y 10 m; especies como <i>Triphora hemphilli</i> y <i>Americardia media,</i> indican aguas m&aacute;s profundas que van de 0 a 140 m (Lalli y Gilmer, 1989).</font></p>     <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">Cambios en la distribuci&oacute;n de una especie indicadora se pueden ver reflejados o pueden denotar la posici&oacute;n o direcci&oacute;n de una corriente o masa acu&aacute;tica, en particular. Esta especie puede ser restringida y abundante para ser indicadora, por ejemplo, la presencia de <i>Architectonica (Architectonica) nobilis nobilis, Conus consobrinus consobrinus</i> y <i>Natica (Naticarius) canrena</i> que son caracter&iacute;sticos de la Formaci&oacute;n Agueguexquite. Algunas especies pueden indicar la presencia de corrientes m&aacute;s c&aacute;lidas, como <i>Arcinella arcinella,</i> que ha sido descrita para el Mioceno medio de Panam&aacute;, Costa Rica, Venezuela y Ecuador.</font></p>     <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">Las especies que est&aacute;n presentes en la localidad El Tepache han sido reportadas para el Plioceno de Santa Rosa, Veracruz., y dos m&aacute;s para el Plioceno de St. Petersburg, Florida. La edad asignada a esta fauna por Akers (1972) basada en el estudio de microf&oacute;siles planct&oacute;nicos sugiere una edad de Plioceno. La presencia de <i>Sphaeroidinella dehiscens dehiscens</i> forma <i>immatura</i> fija la posici&oacute;n exacta de las capas en Zona N19.</font></p>     <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">Con estudios m&aacute;s detallados de otras colectas se podr&aacute; definir con m&aacute;s exactitud la edad de la localidad.</font></p>     <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">&nbsp;</font></p>     ]]></body>
