El desarrollo de los videolaringoscopios y su gran avance en disponibilidad y aceptación han redefinido las estrategias de intubación garantizando la efectividad, seguridad y rapidez. La necesidad de contar con un algoritmo de manejo de la vía aérea bajo videolaringoscopía que cumpla con los parámetros actuales de garantizar la seguridad del paciente evitando siempre las complicaciones en el período de la peri-intubación debe ser lo ideal en todas las áreas críticas (anestesiología, medicina crítica, medicina de emergencias). Tomando en cuenta las características de los pacientes críticos o graves, es necesario contar con guías o planes de actuación que permitan la adopción de estos dispositivos como estándar de manejo sin perder de vista un enfoque de atención multidisciplinario en el manejo de la vía aérea. Se presenta un algoritmo fácil de recordar y aplicar optimizado para los videolaringoscopios, con base en cuatro pilares críticos: oxigenación-ventilación, estado hemodinámico, ácido base y neuromonitoreo y con la recomendación de garantizar un solo y único intento de intubación siempre asistida por un bougie durante la videolaringoscopía.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: Airway management is a critical intervention, being a challenge in complicated patients and scenarios. The development of video laryngoscopes and their great advance in availability and acceptance have redefined intubation strategies, guaranteeing effectiveness, safety and speed. The need to have an airway management algorithm under videolaryngoscopy that meets the current parameters of guaranteeing patient safety, always avoiding complications in the peri-intubation period, should be ideal in all critical areas (anesthesiology, critical medicine, emergency medicine). Taking into account the characteristics of critical or severe patients, it is necessary to have guidelines or action plans that allow the adoption of these devices as a management standard without losing sight of a multidisciplinary care approach in airway management. An easy-to-remember and apply algorithm optimized for video laryngoscopes is presented, based on four critical pillars: oxygenation-ventilation, hemodynamic status, acid base and neuromonitoring and with the recommendation of guaranteeing a single intubation attempt always assisted by a bougie during videolaryngoscopy.]]></p></abstract>
