Metodología:  Se revisaron bitácoras de pacientes de ambos sexos mayores de 18 años con diagnóstico de fractura mandibular que hayan sido atendidos en el Hospital Central Militar durante el periodo comprendido del 01/marzo/2019 a 01/marzo/2022, se recabaron las variables en estudio y se organizaron en bases de datos el programa Excel; las características y los resultados de los pacientes se informaron como frecuencias y proporciones para las variables categóricas y mediana y rango Inter cuartil o media y DE para las variables continuas.  Resultados:  Se encontró un total de 80 casos de fractura mandibular. La principal etiología en este estudio fue accidente automovilístico con el 27.5 % (76). Sesenta y un (61) pacientes presentaron fractura mandibular aislada. El sitio anatómico de fractura mandibular más frecuente fue el ángulo. El tratamiento fue reducción abierta con fijación interna 95.5 % (76) y conservador 4.5 % (4). La inestabilidad de materiales fue la única reportada, presente en el 3.75 % de los pacientes.  Limitaciones:  Una muestra más grande puede proporcionar resultados más robustos.  Valor:  Este estudio permite conocer el comportamiento epidemiológico de las fracturas mandibulares en una muestra de la población en el EyFAM, los resultados proporcionan información valiosa para mejorar la prevención, diagnóstico y tratamiento de pacientes específicos que se traducen en un menor costo sanitario y mejor calidad de vida de los militares del EyFAM y sus derechohabientes.  Conclusiones:  La prevalencia de fracturas mandibulares fue significativamente mayor en hombres en la segunda y tercera década de la vida. La causa más común fue un accidente automovilístico, y el ángulo junto con parasínfisis fueron los sitios anatómicos más afectados. Una cuarta parte de los pacientes presentaron fracturas asociadas a la fractura mandibular, siendo las más frecuentes fracturas del piso de la órbita y fractura del complejo orbito-cigomático. La reducción abierta con fijación interna fue el tratamiento más utilizado. La única complicación reportada fue la inestabilidad de materiales y se presentó en menos del 5 % de los pacientes.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  Objective:  To know the epidemiology of different mandibular fractures in patients attending the oral and maxillofacial surgery service of the military central hospital during the period 2019 - 2022.  Methodology:  Logbooks of patients of both sexes over 18 years of age with a diagnosis of mandibular fracture who were seen at the Hospital Central Militar during the period 01/March/2019 to 01/March/2022 were reviewed, the variables under study were collected and organized in databases the Excel program; the characteristics and results of the patients were reported as frequencies and proportions for categorical variables and median and Inter quartile range or mean and SD for continuous variables.  Results:  A total of 80 cases of mandibular fracture were found. The main etiology in this study was automobile accident with 27.5 % (76). Sixty-one (61) patients presented isolated mandibular fracture. The most frequent anatomical site of mandibular fracture was the angle. Treatment was open reduction with internal fixation 95.5 % (76) and conservative treatment 4.5 % (4). Material instability was the only one reported, present in 3.75 % of the patients.  Limitations:  A larger sample may provide more robust results.  Value:  This study provides insight into the epidemiological behavior of mandibular fractures in a sample of the population at EyFAM, the results provide valuable information to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment of specific patients resulting in lower healthcare costs and better quality of life for EyFAM servicemen and their entitled patients.  Conclusions:  The prevalence of mandibular fractures was significantly higher in men in the second and third decade of life. The most common cause was a motor vehicle accident, and the angle together with the parasymphysis were the most affected anatomical sites. A quarter of the patients had fractures associated with the mandibular fracture, the most frequent being fractures of the floor of the orbit and fracture of the orbitozygomatic complex. Open reduction with internal fixation was the most commonly used treatment. The only complication reported was material instability and it occurred in less than 5 % of the patients.]]></p></abstract>
